I am currently a first year student a Sheffield Hallam University studying (BEng) Software Engineering. I have always loved computers and strived to understand the fundamentals behind computing. I love designing programs. The idea that I am creating, from the base up, something so wonderful and, in this day and age depended on excites me. I get enthused by the logic used to code. The course offers a wealth of knowledge and experience in many computer programming languages. So far I have learned to code efficiently in languages such as c++, c# and HTML. I have also learned the fundamentals of computer architecture. And software engineering practices and procedures such as creating UML, sequence and class diagrams etc. Year 1 Modules - Fundamentals of programming. - Component Programming. - Mathematics for Software Engineering. - Fundamentals of computing architecture. - System Requirements. - Professionalism and communication skills. Education and qualifications GCSE (2009) Design and technology product design: A, Maths: B, Science: B, Additional Science: B, English literature: B, English Language B, Art: B, Religious education: B, Citizenship: B, Business Studies: pass, IT: Merit. AS levels(2010) Computing: A, English Literature and language: D. BTEC Extended Diploma in IT(2012) This was a two year course in which I gained a triple distinction (equivalent to 3 a levels).
Practical Skills Within my current course I am learning to code in C++. I have created multiple programs throughout the year using the language, including measurement conversions, encryption programs and creating games. I created a game called brick breaker using C# which made me efficient in coding using this language. I excel in CSS and HTML and created a website with a flight booking system along with some C# functions and use of some SQL programming. Within my BTEC Extended Diploma I briefly learned basic PHP scripting. Personal Statement I have always had an enthusiasm with technology. I strive to educate myself and gain a full understanding of technology and computers, from their core hardware and how it works, to the most advance computer uses. I want to explore the wholeness of computer technology. After my education, I not only want to be witness to the most quickly advancing industry in the world, I want to be involved. I want to be a reason for its advancements. I am a creative person who enjoys designing things. One of my favourite aspects of computing is programming, I enjoy the logic behind it and have used c based languages enough for it almost to become a second language to me. Due to these key features of myself, I would love to aid in programming or designing new technology. I want to be an innovator, someone who can look at a big change within the industry: a program or a device and say I programmed part of that, or I designed that. Work experience Tesco Hanley Extra CLOUGH STREET, HANLEY, STOKE ON TRENT, STAFFORDSHIRE, ST1 4AJ. 2011-2012 I worked here for just over a year and sadly had to terminate my employment when I committed to higher education. I began in the summer, as a night assistant replenishing stock on the shop floor. Within this role I was often praised for my speed and persistence for getting the job done. Once the summer of 2011 was over I had to change my role to allow me to attend college. I became a checkout assistance gaining great social skills and patience.
Interests and achievements In school I carried out a course, which gained me a junior sports leadership award and along with it excellent leadership skills. Outside of school I filled up a year of my time learning keyboard and have qualifications in both practical and theoretical music. My major interest, as mentioned is computers and I spend hours as I left school teaching myself how to use visual basic and adobe software and keeping up to date with technology news. I learned how to drive in 2011 and in that year obtained my category b driving license. Referees References are available on request.
