How long will it be until the 'wonderful apartments' gets built? Two years minimum? Where are the 1512 families supposed to stay in the meanwhile? What temporary housing arrangements were made to ensure the wellbeing of these families and the other 900? How did you even expect the young girls, the children and the elders to survive the nights without the security of a house? Were these not relevant socioeconomic questions before the PPP plan was drawn up? Now, how are you ensuring the ownership of these 'wonderful apartments' goes to the residents who were residing at Ejipura, primarily as renters, and not to the original owners (who did not even reside in the area but are registered owners of the land through the possession of a patta ) and other political and BBMP touts?

Did you ever consider these before deciding to pull down the so called shanties ? If yes then I urge you to come out and clarify. If not, then, your decision to bulldoze these houses was myopic, detestable and infact homicidal as your actions have led to the death of an elderly and caused immense physical and mental harassment to thousands of Bangaloreans. I await in anticipation to a targeted reply and urge everyone to boycott the (horrendous) Garuda Mall until they answer these queries, sit down with the members of the community to resolve the issue and make immediate arrangements to ensure shelter arrangements for all the victims.

you wouldnt have thought that i have actually been there when you bulldozed that little community there, right? and you wouldnt have expected that I witnessed your goons shove 2000rs to each family s pocket and bundled their left over belongings into vans and just sent them out into nowhere, to the roadsides right? and you wouldnt have expected that I have seen these 900 families that you claim to have "saved from dingy tin sheds" sitting on the roadside with nowhere to go, holding onto their little belongings and their children.. And you would have definitely not expected that I have seen people running around with documents and voters ID cards provided on the basis of their ownership of the land, without knowing who will give them some money to find another place!! and that I have actually taken a survey among them to get atleast some idea about who needs what help and have actually gone around and interacted with them!

These were some pots and pans, a bag of clothes, a box of assorted things and a cat. The bulldozer driver happily began to carry it's task and neither did the supervisor not the driver care for the lady who was crying or her few possessions or her cat. I stood in the way of the bulldozer as did another lady. My husband, and two other volunteers gathered her belongings and the cat. This is Gaudachar and his immense empathy. Dear M/s Maverick Holdings, Thank you for your response. Firstly, We have no MALICE in our objections.We appreciate and support you for your gesture of building 1512 homes+900 apartments. None are against your construction of a mall. Our Concerns are straight and simple. 1.Where will these people suddenly find shelter? Its been a almost a month since evacuation.Agreed, some were illegal encroaches, but evacuating them overnight is a bolt from the blue for them. there... please ensure that these slum dwellers get rehabilitated, and also make this area a more habitable one and make nice malls etc. This is a welcome initiative... and I don't know why people are so against it... if they need to raise their voice, they should raise their voice against the govt who should do a separate arrangement for those families... it never happens that you create a slum in the middle of your city and not any development happen in the name of charity... charity too has its ways

The division bench of the Honorable High Court presided over the chief justice, passed judgment that 1512 original allottees should be given housing in the same area on the back side and in front side commercial complex is to be built which would be shared by Bangalore City Corporation and Maverick Holdings equally . The High Court further said these illegal encroachers should be evicted/evacuated forth with in order to construct 1512 houses for the EWS who were the original allottees. The Bangalore City Corporation (BBMP) evicted these 900 + unauthorized encroachers taking police help and handed over land to Maverick Holdings to commence the project immediately. It is to be noted that all the 1512 original allottees would be getting a wonderful apartment as against living in a dingy tin shed. On humanitarian grounds Ms.Maverick in consultation with then Govt , BBMP , Local MLA and its own Managing Director, convinced the authorities to get alternative accommodation for this 900 unauthorized encroachers. Building a mall over the lives of 1500 people is disgusting. Do you have any defence?

There were 1512 original allottees and another around 900 encroachers. These encroachers were living there illegally. The division bench of the Honorable High Court presided over the chief justice, passed judgment that 1512 original allottees should be given housing in the same area on the back side and in front side commercial complex is to be built which would be shared by Bangalore City Corporation and Maverick Holdings equally . The High Court further said these illegal encroachers should be evicted/evacuated forth with in order to construct 1512 houses for the EWS who were the original allottees. The Bangalore City Corporation (BBMP) evicted these 900 + unauthorized encroachers taking police help and handed over land to Maverick Holdings to commence the project immediately. It is to be noted that all the 1512 original allottees would be getting a wonderful apartment as against living in a dingy tin shed. On humanitarian grounds Ms.Maverick in consultation with then Govt , BBMP , Local MLA and its own Managing Director, convinced the authorities to get alternative accommodation for this 900 unauthorized encroachers. Accordingly these people have also been given apartments that are to be built in a place under Rajiv Awaz yojana. If not Maverick some other contractor would have got this PPP project to execute. Since this project was tendered globally and 31 contractors participated in this tender. Hence 1512 houses will be built for the original allottees in the same place at EJIPURA and 900 unauthorized encroachers would also get wonderful shelter on their head instead of living in a dingy tin shed . This is for your kind information. We would appreciate if you the conscious people would encourage this project and help the 1512 EWS families who were original allottees and residing at EJIPURA would get their apartment at EJIPURA itself and the 900 unauthorized encroachers to also get an apartment instead of living in a dingy tin shed and stop politicizing this noble issue . we would appreciate your support , if you are satisfied, please share this comment with others and join hands with us for this good cause. Every newspaper has reported that proper notice was not served to the people living there, hired goons were used to throw out people and their stuff on the road. Is this the humane way of doing eviction? Kids were having their exams but no one cared what will happen to their studies. You can provide all legal reasons that you are correct but from a humane standpoint you are not. I said in my first comment to show compassion. Provide the people with a doctor so that they can get proper treatment for diseases they catch due to now being forced to live on the road. Provide them with psychiatric counseling so they do not have a mental breakdown. Give them help in finding alternative places to stay. This will cost money but not some big amount. Won't even make a dent of 1% in your profits. You want us to support you. We will support you when you will show care and compassion towards those who are needy and less privileged. the area. The land in question, however, was originally allotted and legally meant for building houses for the economically weaker sections (EWS). No rehabilitation has been done by either Maverick or the BBMP and thousands of people have been out on the streets, braving the cold, without shelter, water or sanitation. Surendran Home A Lokayukta enquiry continues against this project, alleging that the deal was illegally awarded to the Maverick group under the Yeddyurappa Government. On 23/11/2006, Like the Create Page Commissioner of the BBMP issued a letter to the Principal Secretary Urban Development Department, raising serious questions in regard to the granting of the contract and its Now violation of public interest. Worse still, this agreement was 2013 drafted without any information reaching the homes of the residents of the site, let alone any consultation or plan for 2012 alternative housing for the residents. 2011 The residents of EWS quarters come from historically marginalized, deprived SC/ST and minority communities, and they work long hours for minimum daily wage. A majority have lost their jobs as a result of being away from work guarding their possessions on the road, and many children have not been able to attend school. Senior citizens and pregnant women have been at risk, with one woman dying out in the cold after her home was demolished. Many have steadily been falling ill. BBMP is trying to justify the transfer of EWS land to a private company by claiming that there is a shortage of funds. However, the same BBMP has not utilised funds meant to build houses for the poor from the Central Government under the JNNURMBSUP and other schemes, as well as the State Government, citing shortage of land. There is no dearth of money, if the government wants to provide housing for the weaker sections. I have been volunteering for relief work at EWS since Jan 19th. I witnessed the brutal demolition firsthand and was shocked at how 1500 houses could be demolished abitrarily, without any consultation, resettlement and rehabilitation, to make way for a new shopping mall. As owners of the popular Garuda mall in Bangalore, Maverick Holdings has a responsibility towards its customers and the citizens of Bangalore. Bangalore City Corporation (BBMP) evicted these 900 + unauthorized encroachers taking police help and handed over land to Maverick Holdings to commence the project immediately. It is to be noted that all the 1512 original allottees would be getting a wonderful apartment as against living in a dingy tin shed. On humanitarian grounds Ms.Maverick in consultation with then Govt , BBMP , Local MLA and its own Managing Director, convinced the authorities to get alternative accommodation for this 900 unauthorized encroachers. Accordingly these people have also been given apartments that are to be built in a place under Rajiv Awaz yojana. If not Maverick some other contractor would have got this PPP project to execute. Since this project was tendered globally and 31 contractors participated in this tender. Hence 1512 houses will be built for the original allottees in the same place at EJIPURA and 900 unauthorized encroachers would also get wonderful shelter on their head instead of living in a dingy tin shed . This is for your kind information. But I don't appreciate the fact that you are claiming to serve noble cause when on 18th January 2013 the poor families have been dragged out of their home especially women, children and elderly hapless without food and toilet facility. They were totally insecure and when I visited on 19th January evening it was like a war zone no electricity, no support for rehabilitation, tin sheets bulldozed and people desperate. There were various organizations who helped get some of the families resettled. Obviously in your view there is more gain than the loss. Uday Garudachar As owners of the popular Garuda mall in Bangalore, Maverick Holdings has a responsibility towards its customers and the citizens of Bangalore. More than 6000 people were thrown out of their homes in EWS quarters, Ejipura, Bangalore. They helplessly watched as bulldozers demolished their houses to make way for a new shopping mall. The land in question, however, was originally allotted and legally meant for building houses for the economically weaker sections (EWS). No rehabilitation has been done by either Maverick or the BBMP and thousands of people have been out on the streets, braving the cold, without shelter, water or sanitation. Many of them have lost their income as they are not able to go to work, children are not able to go to school and seniors citizens are suffering. The people living in Ejipura are lawful residents and the Government has issued them biometric cards, BBMP ID cards, Voter IDs and Ration Cards. However, they were not even consulted before a decision was made to commercially develop the land. I think this is unfair and this needs to stop. As owners of the popular Garuda mall in Bangalore, Maverick Holdings has a responsibility towards its customers and the citizens of Bangalore. We also demand that Maverick step out of this atrocious deal and cancels the agreement to build a commercial complex on land earmarked for EWS quarters. Sincerely, parag

EJIPURA EWS QUARTERS SAGA A bunch of slum homes in Ejipura near Koramangala were razed down Friday. Shattered residents have been promised houses 15 km way, though 2 that project itself is yet to start

We really don't need another mall in Bangalore. So stop demolishing slum houses in Ejipura so that you can build another mall!!! What will you do with all the dwellers? where will you rehabilitate them? they are on the streets, women sobbing, children hungry because you are throwing them out without giving them an alternative.
