Moon Landing 40th Anniversary

Some moments are indelibly etched in a generations memory. Like the now-classic promise of one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind spoken by Neil Armstrong as he first stepped onto the surface of the moon July 20, 1969. Zippo renews that historic memory with the Moon Landing 40th Anniversary commemorative lighter. The granular Galaxy finish, exclusive for this lighter in 2009, sparkles when it catches the light like stardust caught in a moonbeam. The art is laser engraved to the media finish base lighter, resulting in a metallic silver image.

1935 Replica
The 1935 lighter, one-eighth inch shorter than subsequent models and manufactured for less than three years, has been replicated in stunning detail featuring the original look and elements that made this lighter one of the most collectible in Zippos history. Like the original, the 1935 Replica features a three-barrel outside hinge Cardboard box used for the 1935 Replica. joining the lid and bottom, an open hollow rivet that secures flint wheel to 1935 inside unit, a flat bottom case, and slashes on the opposite 1935 Replica corners of the face and back surfaces. A distinctive bright Brushed Chrome brushed chrome finish and unique bottom stamp identify the 1935 Replica. The 1935 lighter was the last of Zippo lighter production to feature the hinge on the outside of the case. Coincidentally, 1935 was the first year that company logos were applied to the face of the Zippo lighter, leading to the creation of the Zippo ad specialty division, later known as Zippo promotional products.

1941 Replica
Several distinctive characteristics distinguish the 1941 Replica from todays familiar Zippo windproof lighter. The 1941 case has flat planes with sharper, less rounded edges where the front and back surfaces meet the sides. The lid and the bottom are joined with a four-barrel hinge, just as they were on the original 1941 design. The current Zippo lighter has a five-barrel hinge. The inside unit closely replicates the design of the original 1941 model inside unit. Like the outside, the sides of the inside unit are flatter, with squared edges where they meet the front and back surfaces. The inside unit has fewer holes in the chimney, and is also fitted with a hollow rivet that holds the striking wheel in place.

For decades, the Zippo bottom stamp has marked the authenticity of every genuine Zippo lighter. The simple system of dots and slashes, initiated to aid identification of lighters coming back to Zippo for repair, was later replaced by letters and Roman numerals, and still later by letters and digits signifying the month and year of manufacture. Now Zippo is turning the whole system upside down . . . literally.

Bottomz Up displays the traditional Zippo stamp not only on the bottom, but also on the top of the high polish chrome lighter. The conventional date code, showing month and year of manufacture, is stamped on the canned-style bottom, while the canned-style lid is branded with the year of manufacture and the symbol identifying it as Bottomz Up. Fits standard Zippo displays.

First released by Zippo in 1974, the Venetian is still one of Zippos most popular lighters. For over three decades, the timeless front and reverse floral pattern continues to be the most globally appealing lighter design Zippo has ever released.

US COAST GUARD BEAR The bear was adopted as a mascot by the US Coast Guard soon after the turn of the 20th century. In 1926, a young cadet returned from leave with a live bear cub, who was named Objee, short for objectionable presence. A favorite with cadets, Objee lived in many homes over the years, and ultimately lived up to his name. After more than six decades of active duty, he was retired to a farm in New York state.

US AIR FORCE FALCON Members of the Air Force Academys class of 1959, the first to enter the Academy, chose the falcon as their mascot, believing it embodied the characteristics they had come to associate with the US Air Force: speed, power, grace, vigilance, regal bearing, and a noble history. Interestingly, the falcon is the only performing mascot in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and is the pride of the Air Force Academy.

US NAVY GOAT According to legend, in 1893, a goat named El Cid helped Navys football team hand Army a stinging defeat.
