News From Room 207

Week of 6/10/13

It is hard to believe that we only have 8 more days together. Please note that Wednesday is our last day for parent volunteers as we have an extremely busy week ahead of us. Field Day is Monday (rain or shine). Please remember to have your child wear sneakers and a blue shirt, put on sunscreen and bring in a water bottle. Children will have lunch in the cafeteria at 11:25 AM and then go to recess. The Opening Ceremony will begin at 1:00 PM.

Important Dates
6/10 Field Day 6/11 Kindergarten Buddy Picnic/Recess Monday

On Tuesday afternoon, we will have a snack picnic and then recess with our Kindergarten buddies. If your child would like to bring in a special snack to eat and a towel to sit on, that would be great. Snacks may not be shared and should be peanut-free. Several students from Sherwood will come into our classroom on Wednesday morning to speak with us. They usually share about what it is like to be a student at Sherwood and then answer any questions your children may have. Our Pen Pal Picnic is on Thursday. There is no rain date. If it rains, the event will be cancelled. Your child will need a peanut-free bagged lunch with a disposable drink and a towel to sit in. Additionally, please remember to have your child wear sneakers and put on sunscreen. Any chaperones interested in joining us are welcome but please let me know if you will be joining us. We will leave Spring Street School at 11:15 AM and return around 1:00 PM. Our Author Celebration/Slide Show will be on Tuesday, June 18th at 2:00pm in the cafeteria. Thank you so much for the generous donations of disinfecting wipes and Mr. Clean Magic erasers. We should be all set now.

Science We enjoyed completing Science Court last week. Read Aloud Our new book is by James Riley and is called Half Upon a Time. In the story, Jack lives in a fantasy world. He's the son of the infamous Jack who stole the magic beans from the giant, and he's working hard to restore his family's reputation. He finds the perfect opportunity when a "princess" lands in front of him, apparently from the land of Punk, as her Punk Princess t-shirt implies. May is from our world, and she's utterly confused to find herself in the midst of the fairy tale characters she has read about.

Math We will complete Unit 12. Please check in with your child to be sure they have completed the study link as well as the assigned math boxes each night. Social Studies We will further explore Mexico and write a poem based on what we have learned. English Language Arts We will finish up our writing pieces and organize our writing portfolios this week. Please let us know if you will be joining us for our Author Celebration/Slide show on June 18th.
