Why vocation is important
Vocation means- calling from God to live a Christian life. To be a disciple of Christ. A witness to his/ her own faith. Leads them to a life where they serve God and live in the way he wants them to live. If you follow your vocation you will receive salvation.
How to show vocation in your daily life
It could be through a caring profession like a doctor, teacher, policeman etc.- where you help others and show Gods love. By the way you treat others around you. By marrying and having children and bringing them up in a Christian way. By being honest and fair to your employees and standing up for justice.
Vocation- Holy orders
Some men have a special calling and a vocation to become a priest, deacon or bishop. They take the sacrament of ordination (holy orders). They dedicate their life to God and preach his message. They serve the Church.
How and why Christian promote Social Community Cohesion.
Community cohesion = all ethnic groups, cultures and religions living together peacefully. Catholics can show this by making friends with people from different ethnic and religious groups. Catholic schools teaching about community cohesion and different religions. Parishes welcoming everyone and setting up groups and classes to help people from different ethnic groups. Stand up against injustice and racism. Parables such as the sheep and goats and Good Smaritian teach Catholics to love everyone and treat everyone fairly. Golden rule- treats others as you would like to be treated. Jesus socialised with all people even the outcasts.
The 10 commandments
They use them to help them worship one God, avoid swearing, honour parents and live a good Christian life. Christians use them because they were given to us by God and reinterpreted by Jesus. It teaches how to live as God wants us to and helps us achieve salvation. They are still relevant today and help shape our Law systems. It shows us our intention is just as important as our action.
The Sermon the Mount- Displaying Religion
The Sermon on the Mount- is where Jesus speaks to his followers about how to live a good Christian life. A guide for living. It teaches us how to pray, fast, give to charity and worship God. We should not do it for show It should be in private between you and God. Do not be a hypocrite- say how holy you are but not act holy. You will not be reward so much in heaven if you are being praised for your actions on earth.
The Sermon the Mount- Money
Christians use the Sermon to help them develop the right attitude to money and God. Serving God is more important than serving money because money dies but God is eternal and serving him brings eternal life. You cant take your money with you. Help others with your money- you dont need excessive amounts. Story of the Rich man. Spiritually rich.
The Sermon the Mount- Golden Rule
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. ( Matthew 7.12) Treat others as you would want to be treated. Dont judge other people unless you want to judged. Brings peace and community cohesion.
