The discussion is to be guided by these questions:

How can an understanding of the origins of different languages and their relationship help our teaching? How can understanding the arbitrary nature of language help students? What about the creative nature of language? What about a structuralist perspective? How is this useful? In what way can thinking of language competence and language performance help understand how people know a language? What are some examples of language functions? How does the context affect the meaning of what we say? How does an understanding of the process of communication help language teaching? How do we define language teaching nowadays?

Let us suggest, question, debate, supplement, propose and finally agree on a conclusion that represents the group consensus. Organize your discussion like this:

August 28th 29th post your answer to the questions individually on the forum August 30t h 31st Discuss, debate, supplement, try to create a consensus. September 1st 2nd Elaborate a conclusion of the forum, using the Wiki Conclusion of the forum - Unit 1.

Participate on the Academic Discussion of the unit (the forum and the Wiki) with your group. Continue work on Assignment, integrating aspects seen in Lesson 3 into assignment.
