Launch Site Crew
Check to ensure that the bridge bay latches are thrown and the cable is out of the cable guide Lock down the driver side aft tie-down Ground guide the transporter into the water and release the bay when directed
Boat Operators
Boat operators are normally a crew of two licensed soldiers Safety boats also have two operators, both trained on the correct method of recovering soldiers from the water, basic first aid, artificial respiration and correct radio procedures The safety boats should be equipped, as a minimum with the standard equipment

Bridge Centerline Crew
This crew assembles on the hold boat with the necessary equipment. ie: * Wrench bay drive pin / T-bar * Crow bar / 60 bar * Tie-off rope / Throw rope * Roadway tool / J-hook * Ramp connecting hook / C-clamp * Portable hoist / Ramp to bay connector The bridge centerline crew connects bay to bay until the bridge is built across the gap

Transporter Shuttle Crew
The shuttle crew are drivers that shuttles the prepared bays from the engineer equipment park to the launch site. The NCOIC of the engineer equipment park has control over these soldiers License drivers that understands hand signals for ribbon bridge The transporter shuttle crew prepares the bays for launch while the vehicles are staged in the engineer equipment park

Anchorage Crew
Depending on what type of anchorage is being constructed, you will then assign soldiers for constructing either short term anchorage or long term anchorage. Soldiers assigned this duty will use either bridge erection boats with approach guys, shore guys, kedge anchors with anchor lines, or the overhead cable system used with bridle lines.

Assembly Time for Ribbon Bridges
Example 1 How much time is required to construct a 500ft ribbon bridge during daylight operations? 500ft divided by 600ft per hour =.833 hours(day) Convert .833 to actual time .833hrs x 60min =49.98 round up 50 minutes Example 2 How much time is required to construct a 500ft ribbon bridge during night operations? 500ft divided by 600ft per hour =.833 hours(day) Convert .833 to actual time .833hrs x 60min =49.98 round up 50 minutes (Construction by night add 50 percent) .833hrs x 30min =24.99 round up 25 minutes 50min + 25min = 1 hour 15 minutes (night build)

Long Term Standing Float Equipment
Make sure all bilge plugs are in place Make sure roadway latches are in the proper position Make sure lower lock drives are completely engaged Periodic checks on roadway surface for punctures Inspect previously mentioned items periodically

DIRECT RAFTING OPERATIONS AS RAFT COMMANDER

Directs the Centerline Crew
Assist in connecting the boats to the raft and issues life jackets to soldiers on the raft Throw ramps for loading & unloading equipment from the raft. helps as lookout for the raft commander Secures the raft to the shore with tag lines or approach guys to prevent the raft from moving away from the shore when loading equipment Places the vehicles chock blocks to stabilize before departing from the shoreline and removes the chock blocks upon arrival to the far shore The centerline crew push or cut away debris from the raft Operates the hydraulic pumps on the ramps

Periodic Operational Checks While Rafting
Check ponton latches and lower lock drive pins. Pontons will be inspected for leakage at least once every 3 hours during heavy traffic. Debris will be cut from or removed from the water to ensure safe travel. Roadway pontons will be washed down periodically of mud, dirt, rocks and checked for cracks or holes. Ramp cylinder valves will constantly be checked for leakage and for proper operation. Shore erosion will be monitored and back filled when necessary.
