7 Day Classic Tour of Jordan
DAY The Itinerary
You will arrive at the Aqaba sea port then we will drive to Wadi Rum for a tranquil desert overnight. After breakfast, we will have a jeep 4x4 tour of Wadi Rum and then we will head to Petra, one of the new 7 wonders of the world! Today will be the first half of our visit to the sight of Petra. For our first hours you can have an English speaking guide (optional), to escort you inside Petra, who will show us round the numerous highlights including the Treasury (El-Khazneh) which has an intricately carved faade that glows in the sun, the amphitheatre, and the Royal Tombs. At the end of the day you will walk back past gift shops where you can buy a souvenir or gift to accompany your treasured memories. After breakfast, we will continue the second leg of our Petra tour. After we are finished, we will head down to little Petra and then a city tour of Petra and experience some of the towns culture as well as delicious cuisines. Today we will drive north along the Kings' Highway. We will stop at Dana, Karak, Madaba, and Mt. Nebo. At Dana we will witness a breathtaking view. Karak Castle soars above its valleys and hills like a great ship riding waves of rocks. It is a typical crusader fortress, with dimly lit stone-vaulted rooms and corridors leading into each other through heavy arches and doorways. In truth the castle is more imposing than beautiful. Madaba is a Christian town which has many superb mosaics. We will view the most famous mosaic, which is housed at the contemporary Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, and which depicts the Holy Land. From Madaba it is a very short drive to Mt. Nebo, which is a very important Christian site. Then it is off to Amman for overnight. After breakfast, you can sightsee north of Amman taking in Um Qais, historically known as Gadara, is one of Jordans most unique Greco Roman Decapolis sites. Offering an incomparable panoramic view, fascinating ruins, a stunning black basalt theatre, colonnaded main street, city gate, and a charming museum in a restored Othman House, in addition to its other attractions. Ajlun, a hilly town in the North West of Amman. One of Jordans most beautiful regions, thanks to the Mediterranean weather. Jerash, part of the Decapolis (the ten big Roman cities of the East) has been called the Pompeii of the East for its unique state of preservation. The city has developed dramatically in the last century due to its strategic location in the heart of Jordan and the growing importance of the tourism industry to the city. It is now the second-most popular tourist attraction in Jordan, closely behind the splendid ruins of Petra. Then drive to our hotel in Amman for dinner and an overnight stay.
