Remembering Thomas Molnar

Thomas Molnar, a Hungarian-born Catholic philosopher and historian, died in Virginia at age 89. Molnar wrote extensively on the decline of intellectualism and rise of ideology. His most influential work, The Decline of the Intellectual, argued that intellectuals increasingly allied themselves with destructive ideologies as their role in enacting social change diminished. Though his works were widely read in his lifetime, Molnar and his traditionalist philosophical approach are now largely forgotten due to the triumph of ideology over genuine intellectual discussion.
