The Twelve Days of Christmas was a traditional French Chris tmas s ong (thes e songs are called Christmas carols ) that became a favorite Chris tmas Carol in English many centuries (hundreds of years ) ago. It is said that "The Twelve Days Of Christmas" was written to teach the lessons of faith when Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their religion openly. The song's "true love" does not refer to an earthly suitor but rather refers to God Himself, and the "me" receiving the abundance of gifts is representative of every baptized person.
