Athens Community Center After School
Fantastic Fridays: The Athens Community Center After School programing will be bringing in community sources for learning and enrichment opportunities on Fridays throughout the remainder of the school year! The Athens Community Center has had the opportunity to connect with many educational community outreach programs. Each Friday we will host a community based organization for increased enrichment! The hope is that we can increase our students knowledge of opportunities and activities in our community. By connecting with our community learning sources we are creating great relationships and increase our community involvement! Appalachian Peace and Justice: February 7th, 21st, 28th
Appalachian Peace and Justice will be visiting After School with a learning curriculum focused on community action, bullying, and movement toward peace and social justice. The group leader is a qualified individual in presenting the peace and justice curriculum. APandJ will be joining us for three sessions in February. The copperheads and the mascot will be here to work on Valentines Day crafts with the after school student. The team will then be handing those out to community programs! Goodworks: a makeup day February 13th (Thursday) 14th originally no school, now
Good Works will be presenting the goals and outreach opportunities that they present in the Athens Community. This will also include information and activities related to kids discovery club. Information can be viewed here: http://www.good-works.net/
Live Healthy Appalachia
March

This presentation and activities will be based on the Live Healthy Appalachia goals; Improving the health and wellbeing of the Appalachian region through education, outreach, and advocacy emphasizing nutrition and other lifestyle choices.
Wayne National Forest:
April
4th
Wayne National Forest Education director will be presenting educational enrichment on the water cycle. The connection during this time of year is the start of spring and rain water. PING Center Sports Day
April
11th
Ohio University Campus Recreation will sponsor a sports day for the Athens County Parks and Recreation Community Center during the month of April. Playing sports will not only offer children physical benefits but also provide social and academic learning experiences that can be transitioned into everyday life. Children will have the opportunity to further develop social bonds through team building games and develop basic fundamentals associated with these sports. Working through our designated stations will allow children to strengthen motor skills.
PING Center Fitness Day
April

Ohio University Campus Recreation will provide a fitness day for our youth to be instilled with different ways to live a healthy and active lifestyle. Children will be provided the tools to explore fun and engaging ways in the fitness setting. Fitness obstacles and group classes will be conducted by nationally certified group fitness instructors. This will be a fun way for children to learn fitness techniques that they can do at home as well. Community Outreach that we are still connecting with for Fantastic Fridays include: Ohio Department of Natural Resources (fish species and identification), COAD afterschool based learning standards, Athens Historical Society, Athens Library, Recycling Center, Human Service Organization, Arts West (Art and performance), and our Senior Center.
