How can I increase my usable RAM to 4GB in Windows 7?

I have a laptop (Acer 5741G) with 4 GB RAM. I run Windows 7 32bit >ControlPanel >System shows that: Installed Memory(RAM) 4.00 GB (2.53 GB usable). I found some patches for Windows 7 and applied them to my system and now it shows this : Installed Memory(RAM) 4.00 GB(3.87 GB usable) I want to know is there any solution for get 4.00 GB usable in Windows 7 32bit?

we had a similar question, previously: Why can my 64-bit system only use 3.75 GB of RAM, when it has 4 GB and should support 8 GB?. Saikat had the perfect answer to that one. In short, dont worry, its normal and you most likely cant increase it any further. However, I would be interested in learning what type of x you found online to go from 2.53 GB, which is way too little usable RAM for 4 GB installed, to 3.87 GB. This information may be helpful for others.

Farhad2161 I used http://www.tarfandestan.com/les/Patch-3-Windows-Vistaand-7.zip and it changed usable RAM from 2.53 GB to 3.87 GB.

It does seem to be a glitch to have only 2.53 usable ram for 4 GB installed, and I am glad you have found a x, but I do agree with Tina that you might have reached your maximum. Ram gets mapped by certain programs and hardware as you boot you computer, so for example, if you have a built in video card that used 256 mb of ram, it will map and reserve that as you boot, so its very common for ram to show lower than the total amount installed.

Farhad2161 1-Run Patch-3-Windows-Vista-and-7.exe and press Apply. 2-Press Yes and wait a few second and then press ok. 3-Run AddBootMenu.cmd as administrator and press Y key. 4-Wait a few second and when The operation completed successfully appeared, restart your computer and choose new item that added to your boot menu.

Rak91 why you using software instead you can set in mscong tab.. ive 2GB vram graphic card,4GB of ram memory.. 1. Type mscong in the search box 2. goto Boot tab 3. click Advanced Options 4. Tick Maximum memory to your full ram. (in my case 4GB, so 4096) 5. Then press OK. 6. Double check it again by click the Advanced options again. If you found out that the Maximum memory reset to 0, then change it to 4095. 7. Restart your computer.

patch did not work for me. still shows 4,00 GB RAM (2,59 Usable) on Windows 7 32 bit operation system.

Rak91 Use RAMpatch its for 32 bit Windows 7 to support 4 GB RAM..

Mike Microsoft KB about this problem including a FixIt download and the manual steps to get rid of it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509241 Either requires your Windows installation to be activated.

it is normally to have only 2.87 GB ram when you have 32bit operating system , the problem with me to have onle 3.87 ram with 64bit operating system ,actiully I format my computer to full use the RAM ( 4 GB) , after that I found my RAM 4 GB ( 3.87 used) ?!! how to solve this issue plz help me ! thnx

Rak do you have graphic card? if so, then the integrated Graphic and the graphic card shared the memory together.. im also in 64bit OS. Just like you said, DONT WORRY.. when it comes in running 64 bit application, the OS use all your RAM. The things that it shows the usable memory is that many application that running is 32 bit. Look at your task manager, view the processes lots of x32..

Mike From what I saw in the command le this patch ads a custom boot entry with a customized kernel executable to Windows and selects it as the default boot option. I would like to ask you to open up an elevated command prompt (right-click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command prompt and select to run as administrator) Type bcdedit in the command prompt and please reply back the output. With that I may be able to support you with the commands to remove the entry and uninstall the patch. The only other way would be to repair the entire boot BCD via the Windows CD/DVD however in rare cases it doesnt work and results in a not bootable installation.

Anonymous perhaps like this if you open system conguration (on run type mscong) then click on boot you have to see two boot options one is for the normal windows and the other patch, perhaps you can delete from there. Also the patched kernel le ntkrlICE.exe in the folder C:Windowssystem32
