Administrative units of Pakistan
The administrative units of Pakistan consist of four provinces, one federal capital territory, two autonomous territories and a group of federally administered tribal areas.[1] Below this top tier, there are four more tiers of government, including 27 divisions, more than a hundred districts zillahs!, more than four hundred sub"districts tehsils!, and several thousand union councils. #a$istan%s administrative units are as follows& Administrative unit 1 2 3 0 ? Divisions are the third tier of government in #a$istan, between the provinces and districts. They were abolished in 2III by the government of former president #erve^ dusharraf to ma$e way for local governance via district governments. Xs of Xugust 2II1, divisions in some provinces have been restored with #un@ab ta$ing the lead and restoring its eight divisions. The four provinces of #a$istan are subdivided into administrative idivisionsi, which are further subdivided into districts, tehsils and finally jnion councils. The divisions do not include the Jslamabad Kapital Territory or the Wederally Xdministered Tribal Xreas, which are counted at the same level as provinces. The five districts had formed the division of 6arachi which was abolished. The number of districts rose to 1IH again in kecember 2II0, when four new districts[1] were created in the province of Eindh of which one jmer$ot! had emisted until 2III and three districts 6ashmore, /ambar and pamshoro! were newly created. Jn day 2II?, the #un@ab provincial government created a new district[2] by raising the status of qan$ana Eahib from a tehsil of Ehei$hupura kistrictto a district in its own right. Jn X^ad 6ashmir, the second tier of government is formed by three administrative divisions with a third tier of ten districts. Jn eilgitfBaltistan, there are sim districts divided between the two regions of eilgit and Baltistanr Baltistan being a part of Dada$h under #a$istani control, the other part being under Jndian control.

Jn #a$istan, the term tehsil is generally used emcept in Eindh where the term taluko Eindhi& ,y-z{! predominates, e.g., Dar$ana Talu$o.[1] The tehsil is the second"lowest tier of local government in #a$istanr each tehsil is part of a larger kistrict zila/zillah jrdu& |-}!!. nach tehsil is subdivided into a number of union councils. Jn 6hyber"#a$htun$hwa, tehsil has the same meaning as emplained above emcept in dala$and kivision, where a district zila/zillah! has two or more subdivisions and a subdivision has two or more tehsils. The subdivisions in dala$and kivision are about the same as tehsils in the rest of the country. Anion councils of Pakistan X sher an or union council in #a$istan is an elected local government body consisting of 21 councillors, and headed by a na^im which is e~uivalent to a mayor! and a naib na^im deputy!. jnion councils are the fifth tier of government in #a$istan and are often $nown as villa<e councils in rural areas, the territory represented by a village council usually comprises a large village and surrounding areas, often including nearby small villages. The term iunion councili may be used for localities that are part of cities. leaded by a union na^im, each union council has 13 elected members or councillors. Jn addition to four male and two female members elected directly, there are two male and two female representatives of the labour, a minority member, a union na^im and his deputy $nown as union naib na^im. Beside elected members, there are several government employees and functionaries in every union council, who report to the secretary of the union council. The latter is a civil servant appointed by the state. The territory of a union council or village council is usually part of a tehsil a district subdivision!. Dess commonly, a union council may be part of a city district.
