North East Rural Livelihood Project

North East Rural Livelihood Project
(NERLP) funded by the World Bank is a multi-
state rural poverty alleviation project. The project
is being implemented in two districts each of the
states of Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and five
districts of Tripura.
NERLP is mandated among other services
to provide Skill Development Trainings for the
youth groups to improve socio-economic
conditions of the people in the project villages.
NERLP is entrusted to hone the skills of
unemployed youths in various sectors so that the
youths can earn and sustain individually and also
contribute to their family income. The project will
support need based trainings to unemployed youth
between the age group of 18 to 35 years in
different institutes and facilitate them in job
placement. The training cost will be borne by the
project for gainful employment of the rural youths.
MAJOR SECTORS UNDER SKILL DEVELOPMENT &
PLACEMENT
CONSTRUCTION
Scope for rural youth: Skilled youths can be
engaged in building of roads and highways, urban
infrastructure (buildings, malls), railways and
metros, power sector, etc. for both government and
private enterprises. The project will sponsor skill
trainings in different institutes for the unemployed
youths.
Skill Development & Placement
HEALTH CARE, BEAUTY & SPA
Scope for rural youth: The youths trained in
Health Care, Beauty & Spa trade can get
absorption in Hospitals, Clinics and Laboratories,
Hotel spas, health & fitness clubs. In todays
world of health & beauty consciousness, beauty
& wellness has a tremendous scope for career
progressions.
HOSPITALITY
Scope for rural youth: A hospitality unit such
as restaurant or hotel consists of multiple groups
of service providers and the youth can be
employed as housekeepers, porters, chefs,
barmen and tourist guides.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT)
Scope for rural youth: IT sector is dealing with
computer hardware, computer software,
electronics goods, internet and telecom
equipment. Many big companies are penetrating
rural towns at rapid paces now-a-day. The rural
youths can be appointed in such companies after
completing course in IT.
RETAIL
Scope for rural youth: After completing
retailing course, unemployed youths can be
absorbed as sales persons in departmental shops,
medicine & telephone companies, MNCs dealing
with food & beverages.
SECURITY
Scope for rural youth: As a trained security
guard, the youth can be absorbed in private
offices, business enterprises, showrooms, banks
and hospitals.
