PRODUCING MORE. CONSUMING LESS.
A NEW CONCEPT OF THE FUTURE.
Eight billion. This, according to the latest estimates, will be the human population of our planet in 2025. Eight billion mouths to
feed, compared with about seven billion today. Increasing cultivated land are, however, will not be able to keep up. There is not
enough arable land. And a lot of it will be used to meet growing energy needs.
The resources of our planet are not inexhaustible. Reserves of phosphorus, the most widely used fertiliser, will run out within
90 years. Even lithium, the mineral that powers the batteries of our computers and our phones will run out. And sooner or later,
we will extract the last barrel of oil. We must be ready for this. Not to prepare for the worst, but to work towards, and make
possible, a different future.
According to eminent scholars of the last century, the Earth would not have had sufficient resources to feed its inhabitants by
today. But they discounted scientific innovations, which have provided us with much more productive farmland.
At Valagro, we believe in the power of nature, a power to be exploited through a scientific breakthrough that will not compromise
it. Because our environment is the only one we have, and even small changes can have very serious consequences on a large
scale. With this in mind, we have chosen sustainable innovation. This uses the most modern technologies to extract valuable
active ingredients from nature, and returns them again to nature to produce healthier, richer, better harvests.
We have the tools, the raw materials, the experience and the expertise to do so. We also want to have the conscientiousness
to do so in alliance with the environment, with people and with cultures. We want to meet people's needs, including their
desire for a greater level of food safety and wellbeing.
We believe it is possible to do so thanks to a new Con-science.
05
At Valagro, world leaders in the production and marketing of speciality fertilisers, we put Science in the service of Nature,
because we offer sustainable nutrient products. We believe it is possible to meet the needs of humanity by using fewer
resources. To this end, we create innovative solutions, providing our customers with ever more effective and sustainable
products, through the use of a new Con-science and ethically correct choices.
VISION
To meet the needs of humanity using fewer resources, thanks to a new Con-science that places science in the service of
humanity through innovation, while respecting Nature.
VALUES
- Integrity and honesty.
- Passion for our customers, our products and our work.
- Responsibility towards ourselves, to others and the environment.
- Cohesion and multiculturalism.
- Confidence in innovation.
MISSION
We have always had a passion for creating innovative and effective solutions for plant nutrition and care, while respecting

SCIENCE IS IMPROVED BY NATURE.
GEAPOWER INNOVATION
At Valagro, we believe in the power of Nature: Geapower.
The innovative system of technologies behind our products: for human and animal wellbeing;
achieving the best quality and quantity from agricultural crops, while optimising land, water and
equipment use.
Geapower certifies a path of excellence, which is divided into four key stages:
1. KNOWLEDGE AND ACCESS TO RAW MATERIALS
We know which raw materials to select, and exactly where to find them, while fully respecting
natural cycles. From Quillaja saponaria plantations in Yucca and Norwegian seaweed, to Agave
plantations: raw materials form the key ingredients for our products.
2. SELECTED EXTRACTION METHODS
For each raw material, and for each active inside, our researchers select and refine the most
effective extraction process based on the desired solution. This is made possible by our scientific
expertise and advanced equipment, capable of enhancing extracted substances without altering
them.
3. IMPLEMENTATION OF RESEARCH STRATEGIES
Our workshops go through the process of identification and physico-chemical classification of the
substances present in the extracts we obtain from raw materials. We accurately identify the nature
and quantity of a number of substances present in the vegetable extract, making use of different
tools and analyses.
4. TARGETED SOLUTIONS
A thorough knowledge of the different needs of each application area allows us to go a step further:
combining active components, to exploit the synergistic effect greatly improving the results. These
are not solutions that are natural, but barely effective, but highly effective solutions that are in
harmony with nature.

ACTIWAVE

PROMOTES ABSORPTION OF NUTRIENTS.

INCREASES THE USE OF THE NUTRIENTS IN THE SOIL.
OPTIMISES MINERAL APPLICATION.
ACTIWAVE

contains betaine, alginic acid, and caidrine, a derivative of vitamin K1 that guarantees correct and balanced nutrition,
increasing the plant's ability to absorb the nutritive elements present in the soil. The caidrine stimulates the activity of the proton gates of
the root cells, accelerating the movement and the exchange between the positive ions from the inside of the root towards the rhizosphere,
and of cations and anions from the rhizosphere to the inside of the roots.
The action of the caidrine, and other biologically active components, bring immediate and tangible benefits: Increased productivity
both in terms of quality and quantity; reduction of nitrates in leafy vegetables, and increased capacity of the plant in overcoming abiotic
stress. By improving the plant's ability to absorb nutrients, ACTIWAVE

reduces losses due to leaching, with positive effects also from

an environmental perspective.
To provide the farmer with all the advantages of ACTIWAVE

, even in the absence of fertigation systems, we developed ACTIWAVE

granular formulation, which provides the same benefits even in large / industrial crops.

DETAILS
CAIDRINE
ELECTRONS ON THE MOVE
Caidrine, an essential element of the ACTIWAVE formulation, is a derivative
of vitamin K1 and plays a key role in electron transport and redox reactions.
Thanks to its molecule a double carbonaceous ring it enhances the
movement of electrons between the inside and the outside of the cells of the
roots of the plant, increasing its ability to absorb nutrients.
The specific conformation of the caidrine molecule increases the movement
of electrons, thereby activating the cell's proton gates* in order to ensure the
proper balance within the cells.
This increases the exchange and the transition between the flux of protons
H+ towards the outside of the cells, and the flow of positive charges (cations,
K+, Mg2+, Fe2) and negative charges (anions, NO3-, SO4 2-, PO4 3-) towards
the interior of the cells.
Elements with a negative charge falls into the cell along with the protons that
are reabsorbed by the cells, using the co-transport (eg. H+/NO3-).
The long carbon atom chains of the caidrine molecule is also used in the
process of organication, i.e. the inclusion of nutrients in complex organic
molecules
The caidrine therefore performs three actions:
1. Increases proton gate activity increasing the cell's ability to absorb
nutrients.
2. Helps transform the nutrients, preparing them for absorption by the cells.
3. Enhances the insertion of nutrients in complex molecules (polysaccharides,
proteins, etc..)
* The proton gates are the structures that regulate the exchange of positive
charges towards the outside of the cell, allowing nutrients to penetrate
inside.

BENEFIT PZ+MC CREAM
THE SYNERGY THAT MAKES 1+1=3!
Synergy is defined as the cooperation between two or more elements in order to achieve a common result, in our case,
greater fruit size.
This is what happens when we apply BENEFIT

PZ and MC CREAM together: the first exerts its action on cell division, the
second on cell expansion.
In fact, the active ingredients in the formulations of the two VALAGRO products are complementary and synergistic.
BENEFIT

PZ contains nucleotides, amino acids and vitamins. Nucleotides stimulate the cytokinesis of the fruit (cell
division), inducing an increase in the number of cells produced over time.
The higher protein needs of the plant, due to the increased cell division, is supported by the amino acids and vitamins
provided by BENEFIT

PZ.
MC CREAM, on the other hand, adds the betaine, natural growth factors, and amino acids.
These active phyto-ingredients facilitate the overcoming of stress, stimulate metabolic and photosynthetic activity in the
plants, and encourage cell expansion.

DETAILS BENEFIT

PZ
INCREASES FRUIT SIZE.
BENEFIT

PZ is a natural product designed to enhance and standardise the size of the fruits. BENEFIT

PZ, when applied

after fruiting, stimulates cell division and the consequent increase in the number of cells present in each fruit.
Following the absorption of water and the normal metabolic activity of plants, a greater number of cells can then relax and
stretch so as to have greater size, bringing the fruit into more profitable, higher caliber classes.
BENEFIT

PZ is recommended for both fruit crops (drupaceous, kiwi) and for horticultural crops with fruits (watermelon,
melon, squash, cucumber, etc.). BENEFIT

PZ contains nucleic acids, vitamins, proteins and free amino acids.

WARNINGS

ERGER

DORMANCY AND ERGER

PLANT DORMANCY
Plants with multi-year cycles alternate between periods of growth, when the environmental conditions are favourable, and
periods of stagnation or low metabolic activity when weather conditions become unfavorable. The slowdown or interruption
of physiological activities in the plant is called dormancy. Dormancy affects any plant structure containing a meristem
(tissue composed of cells capable of multiplying by division). This is a survival strategy in the plant and is controlled by the
concentration of endogenous substances that are hormonal in nature, including abscisic acid and naringenin. The build-up
of these substances is induced by environmental factors that influence the activity status of the buds. In particular, these
factors are attributable to temperature, photoperiod (length of daylight hours), amount of light, nutrient availability and
internal factors specific to the species.
To overcome the unfavourable conditions that have induced a state of dormancy in the plant, a series of reactions occur that
reactivate the metabolism of the plant itself.
The substances that trigger the interruption of dormancy are the gibberellins that stimulate the hydrolytic enzymes (e.g.,
a-amylase), resulting in mobilisation of reserves and, above all, greater availability of simple sugars for respiration and
cytokinins that stimulate the processes of cell division.
ERGER'S ROLE
ERGER

"wakes up" the plant naturally, exerting a powerful stimulating effect on the physiology of crops. The active
ingredients in ERGER

act on plant tissues through the activation of biochemical processes that are the basis of the
physiological vegetative resumption.
ERGER

contains specially selected diterpenes, such as hormone precursors, that can actively stimulate the amylase
hydrolysis of polysaccharide reserves, actively contributing to the availability of simple sugars for respiration. The latter
process is supported by the presence of readily available mono- and polysaccharides, and calcium, an enzymatic cofactor
in the plant's energy processes, both of which are contained in the product.
Furthermore, it is known that the opening of the buds begins with the activation of the metabolisation of nitrogen, so the
plant needs a form of nitrogen readily available at this stage.
ERGER provides readily available forms of nitrogen that can stimulate the physiology of the plant bringing forward the
budding process and making it more uniform.

A VALUABLE SEAWEED.
Ascophyllum nodosum is a brown seaweed belonging to the
order of Fucaceae, characterised by its long branches with
apical vesicles, and growing on rocky substrates often at the
dividing line of high and low tide. Ascophyllum nodosum is found
in the Arctic basin, proliferating primarily along the North
Atlantic coasts of Norway and Canada.
The extreme environmental conditions in which this special
seaweed thrives means it is found completely submerged in
the sea for some months of the year, and also spends time on
the water for a long period of time exposed the sun and other
climatic effects.
Thanks to these unusually hostile environmental conditions,
Ascophyllum nodosum has evolved a singular ability to withstand
stress, thanks to the presence of some valuable substances
contained in it.
Among these there are some containing powerful anti-stress
properties that, if properly extracted, can be used for the
production of special fertilisers able to confer some of the
properties of Ascophyllum nodosum to the treated plants.
During 2002, Valagro integrated vertically through the
acquisition of the Norwegian company Algea, the first company
in the world to achieve, in 1942, a method of extraction of active
ingredients from algae. Thanks to this acquisition Valagro
has become a global leader in the harvesting of Ascophyllum
nodosum, particularly in the extraction of active ingredients.

GENOMIC APPROACH
EXAMPLE OF APPLICATION TO PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Our genomic research approach allows Valagro to greatly accelerate the screening process for the substances to be used in
the formulation of our nutritional products.
At the same time, the genomic approach allows us to use the scientific method to confirm the features assigned by VALAGRO
to their nutritional products. This uses a survey technique that allows us to investigate the ability of a substance to enable
the functionality of one or more genes, and thus to accelerate one or more metabolic processes. Our genomic approach uses
MicroArray technology commonly known as "Gene Chip" introduced in the 90s for studying human genetic diseases, has
recently been extended to research in plant physiology. This was made possible after the mapping of the Arabidopsis thaliana
genome, published in 2000 in "Science".
Through this technology, Valagro can understand the real contribution of each component in the formula of any product in a
timely and objective manner.

are related to the activation of genes in the

plant that are involved in metabolic processes, which
are involved in the synthesis of endogenous hormones
(stimulating vegetative development and productivity),
synthesis of proteins involved in the plant's response
to stress (anti-stress), and the synthesis of membrane
proteins involved in the transport of elements through
the membrane itself (transmission capacity). For
example, the AT1G02930.1 gene is over-expressed
more than six times in MEGAFOL

treated plants
compared to untreated controls. So the activation of
this gene will prepare the plant to respond far better in
cases of severe water or oxidative stresses. The graph
shows how, in the set of over-expressed genes due to
the application of MEGAFOL

are activated in the plant's stress response.

MEGAFOL

PROTEIN is the latest addition to Valagro's MEGAFOL line. A potent stimulator of proteins, made from a complex
of biologically active organic substances and treated with exclusive GEAPOWER (GEA 166) technology. Starting with the
selected matrices of vegetable origin, and using specific methods of extraction, Valagro has developed a purified concentrate
of active ingredients that stimulates those metabolic processes that naturally increase the biosynthesis and accumulation
of proteins. Specifically, MEGAFOL

PROTEIN increases the protein content by up to 2.5 percentage points in wheat, and by
up to 5.8 percentage points in alfalfa.
MEGAFOL

PROTEIN significantly supports the plant's metabolism, enhancing biosynthesis and storage of proteins through:
Modulation of hormonal signals and of enzymatic reactions;
Stimulating metabolism of nitrogen, amino acids and sugars;
Induction of protein storage and protease inhibitors;
The result is a higher concentration of protein in crops of both wheat and alfalfa, which significantly increases the quality
and the value of the crop.

PHENOMIC APPROACH
EXAMPLE OF APPLICATION TO PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
The phenomic approach researches the vegetative growth of the plants through the acquisition and analysis of computer-
generated images that detect and measure the key morphometric and physiological parameters.
Using a computerised 3D scanner, we obtain images at different wavelengths (RGB, UV, NIR) that show the basic parameters
of the plant, such as its biomass, the level of photosynthetic activity, and the water content of the tissues. We can then study
the effects of our products on the dynamics of plant growth.
The standardisation of the plant growth conditions (irrigation, micro-climate, soil) and the computerised data management,
allows us to effectively analyse more than 3000 plants per day, almost completely eliminating the effects of any potential
human error.

GENOMIC APPROACH
EXAMPLE OF APPLICATION TO PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT.
Our genomic research approach allows Valagro to greatly accelerate the screening process for the substances to be used in
the formulation of our nutritional products. The genomic approach also allows us to use the scientific method to confirm the
features assigned by Valagro to their nutritional products.
This uses a survey technique that allows us to investigate the ability of a substance to enable the functionality of one or more
genes, and thus to accelerate one or more metabolic processes.
Our genomic approach uses MicroArray technology commonly known as "Gene Chip" introduced in the 90s for studying
human genetic diseases. The technology has recently been extended to plant physiology research. This was made possible
after the mapping of the genome of Arabidopsis thaliana, published in 2000 in "Science".
Through this technology, Valagro can understand the true contribution of each component in the formula of any product in
a timely and objective manner.

LSA. ADVANTAGES OF THE BREXIL

LINE
The use of products made from micro salts or chelates with synthetic agents can cause problems with limited penetration,
leaching and reduced selectivity. The rapid and complete solubility in water of BREXIL's micro granular formulation, and
the complexing action of LSA on metals, guarantee a quick and safe absorption of micronutrients through the leaf cuticle,
leaving no residue on the surface (Fig. 1) compared to treatment with products based on salts or chelates (Fig. 2).
FOCUS ON LSA
LSA (ammonium ligninsulfonate) is a complexing agent derived from naturally present lignin in different types, depending
on the species from which it is extracted. Lignin is formed by polymerisation of three hydroxycinnamic alcohols, also known
as monolignols.
This is comprised of p-coumaryl alcohol, coniferyl alcohol, and sinapyl alcohol. The ratio of the three monolignols in the
lignin molecule is important in influencing complexation and release of trace elements into the tissues.
Valagro's technology allows us to choose the most appropriate plant species and to use the most innovative methods of
extraction in order to obtain a lignin with an optimal ratio of the three monolignols. This translates into the greater capacity
for complexation of trace elements, the natural selectivity, and ease of penetration into plant tissues that characterise
the products of our Brexil line.

CALBIT C
CALCIUM COMPLEXED WITH LSA.
CALBIT C is a nutritional supplement based on calcium complexed with LSA. CALBIT C is indicated for the prevention and
treatment of: bitter pockmarks in apples; apical rot of tomatoes; rot (bruising) of peppers; desiccation of melon
leaves; desiccation (tip burn) of lettuce, endives and escaroles, cherry cracking of cherries, peaches, nectarines and
plums. Treatments with CALBIT C lead to increased fruit firmness and, consequently, longer shelf life. CALBIT C is ideal
for applying calcium fertigation due to the presence of LSA complex that protects the same from insolubilisation reactions
(LSA-Calcium complex is stable at pH between 3 and 6.5). If applied to the leaves, CALBIT C is not phytotoxic and does not
cause russeting on the fruit susceptible to such physiological disorders (e.g.pome fruits fruits).
PROMOTES RAPID TRANSLOCATION OF CALCIUM IN FRUITS AND FLOWERS. ALSO SAFE FOR EARLY
TREATMENT ON VERY DELICATE PLANTS. MISCIBLE WITH MOST COMMON WITH PESTICIDES.

ACIDIFYING FERTILISER WITH SURFACE ACTION.
CONTROL DMP is a fertiliser with an acidifying and surfactant action. The pH value obtained can be easily determined,
comparing the color of the solution with that of the color scale printed on the label. DMP CONTROL lowers the surface
tension, facilitating the penetration of the solution in plants. The action allows the surfactant to wash away the honeydew
produced by certain parasites.
CONTROL DMP acts as a dispersant and helps makes other mixtures of products more compatible.
ACIDIFIES THE IRRIGATION WATER AND SHOWS THE PH LEVEL REACHED. EASES PENETRATION OF SOLUTIONS
INTO THE LEAVES. NITROGEN AND PHOSPHORUS QUICKLY METABOLISED BY PLANTS.
* Pour CONTROL DMP directly into the atomiser before adding other products.
The dose varies with the pH level and initial hardness of the water.
