Composites:: L 8. Material Science by Vijay Suthar Date:31/1/2013 (6 To 7 P.M.)

Composite materials are made of two or more dissimilar materials that are combined but remain separate and distinct. Composites differ from alloys, where the materials dissolve into each other forming a homogeneous solid solution. Composites can be classified in several ways, including by their formation process (natural vs manmade), construction pattern, and reinforcement method. They consist of a matrix phase that surrounds and binds together a dispersed reinforcing phase, giving composites properties dependent on the characteristics of each phase and how they interact. Common composites include fiber-reinforced plastics, concrete, and wood.
