Since I was a young boy I have always had a passion and interest in industrial carpentry,
thus this is my career choice. This passion was spared because my !ather was a carpenter by
pro!ession and owned a carpentry business. I have always been !ascinated by sills he and his
wormen displayed. Dagoon describes carpentry as the cra!t o! cutting and "oining timber so as
to create housing !rames and items lie windows, doors, cabinets and even staircases# it also
includes building residential and commercial buildings $1%&'1%(). Carpentry also entails
building and maintaining bridges, power plants and sewer plants.
The carpentry industry is very important to the world as every aspect o! development and
li!estyle involves carpentry. * carpenter is a very important person to an individual, business as
well as the economy# this is because the products made by the carpenters generate revenue that is
important to the economy. It is also true to say that everyone re+uires carpentry services at one
point or another in their lives and by ac+uiring these products they contribute to the economy
$,oss and -arrison (.'/&). Carpenters are mostly important in the construction industry# their
sills and e0pertise are re+uired in residential building, commercial construction and in structural
maintenance as well. Industrial carpenters1 "ob involves building bridges, power plants, dams and
the sewer systems. The carpentry industry re+uires strong people as they mostly wor with
power tools as well as their hands. It also re+uires a person who is detail oriented since this
special sill entails reading the building1s blue print as well as the plan. This industry is

connecting towns or countries, which is bene!icial to an economy o! any country. 3ower plants
are important in supplying the country with power which in turn is used by industries and

shows that this career will help me contribute to the wellbeing o! the local, national as well as the
global economy. It is also an important career choice because it helps to solve some o! the
country5s problems lie maing sewer systems and improving the +uality o! li!e !or all.
Industrial carpentry can be a!!ected by the economy in both negative as well as positive
ways# this depends on the trend in the economy. The rise in the cost o! timber and construction
materials has had a negative impact on the carpentry industry. It was badly a!!ected by the
recession and e0perienced a sharp decline in "ob opportunities as the government as well as
organi6ations were not spending# this made the carpenters, especially the industrial ones, su!!er
economically $7aguire 1%1'1%.). This clearly shows that the economic system has a direct e!!ect
on this maret, i! the economy per!orms well so will the industrial carpenter and vice versa. The
decline in the number o! industrial carpenters has been attributed to the instability o! the
economy as this industry is reliant on the per!ormance o! the economy.
I believe, this career choice suits me the best and will help me positively contribute to the
economy. 8ith all the bene!its o! being an industrial carpenter I am convinced that this is the
right direction. 7ost people thin that this type o! wor is easy and does not re+uire any sill or
training, however, only particular and passionate people can !it into this industry.
