GRADE REFLECTIONS EDUC435-Summer 2014 Jieni LIM
1. Community Contribution

I attended all of the classes, except one of them. I engaged in all of the class activities. And the most
importantly, I made a lot of friends who are teachers/ yet-to- be teachers in this course. I also
participated in the work of facilitation. I worked with Manvir, Min and Maria for the group facilitation
on July 18, 2014. I think we deserve an A, because we provided concrete themes, and those ideas
were clearly presented through the activities, such as Darker Shade of Green (Conceptual). I think we
utilized and put the issues in the right contexts, and developed a deep understanding of strands and
ethos that are highly highlighted in the article (reflective). We brought the issues and main ideas
through our activity by providing several examples of how the activity should be like (evidence), even
though in this section, I think we could have brought in more examples of the schools that actually
adopt the idea of environmental issue in their school system. We organized our agenda thoughtfully, in
which provided enough time for people to have break, and the transition of each activity were smooth.
Thus, I think we did an outstanding job.

2. Local Classroom Issue
I worked with Alice Yang to explore the issue of whether the Teaching Program transferrable (To/from
western, non-western countries). Im personally interested in this topic. We have provided profound
ideas that allow us to engage deeply into the particular topic. For example, we narrow our focuses into
non-western and western countries. It helps us to avoid boredom with discussion area. I think we
brought in interesting topics, because the topic was seldom being discussed but it has always been a
major concern for most people, especially people who always move around. We also provided
evidences to show some school policy of transferring credits. For example, which country need to go
through extra steps in order to successfully transfer their credits compared with others (evidence). I
think the audiences were satisfied with the topic. The work was well-organized, and thoughtfully laced.
We organized our presentation in the sequences of: examples of credits transfer, narrow down to BC
teaching program, focuses on BC teachers transfer to non-western and western countries, then the issue
of other teachers transfer to BC. We compare and contrast those different policies, which most of the
audiences have limited knowledge about it, yet they got to stimulate a great interest on this issue. So I
think we deserve an A- Outstanding work.

3. Organizational Review
MAMA Hope is our main focus in this section; again, I worked with Alice Yang. Our main purpose is
to introduce a meaningful organization which adopts the idea of a global view, interconnectedness and
interrelatedness of all social, cultural and natural phenomena. I think we successfully presented the idea
of how this organization started and what are the main assignments (which are food security, clean
water, education, health care in region of Africa). We used videos and some of their successful projects
to explore the important issues that a global citizen should adopt. I think our work was laid out well, we
started off by talking about the definition of Global Education, then did we only introduce the work of
this organization, and how does this organization provide insightful thoughts for us as teachers or
learners. Therefore, I think we deserved a B- Accomplished work in this section.

4. Reflection
I think my reflection work deserved an A- outstanding work, because

(Conceptual): I think I successfully listed out the key ideas or points that I have gained throughout the
course, even though some of the points seems to be irrelevant to the topics, but those are the inputs that
I connected through the activity, and article-reading engagement.
(Reflective Work): I think my reflection stated the key ideas from most of the articles, or from group
facilitations. I chose to include certain presentation topics and sections, but not all of them in my
reflection because only certain sections or topics really caught my attention, prompted me to learn
more, and I had strong impressions of those points. Therefore, I chose to do mind mapping, just jotted

down the keys and how these notions are connected. By doing this, it makes my reflection appears
to be concise and clear.

(Evidenced work): I love pictures and photos, and I took quite a few of them during this course. I also
presented them in my final reflection because I think pictures are solid evidences and examples to show
what I have learnt and experienced.

(Cogency): I think my reflection is well-organized because I created a website link, in order to
incorporate all the works that I have into one piece. This allows me to go through what I have
experienced section by section, and I got to design my own webpage. I think this form of work also
presented sense of creativity.

Reflections explore reasonably
important issues in a competent
manner.
Reflections are often
superficial, seem to state the
obvious, or overlook key
aspects of the discussion.
There is little to no
evidence that ideas were
thought about reflectively
and/or with carefully.

Evidenced Work

and thoroughly supported through
relevant examples. Reference list
is appropriate.
Points are well reasoned and
