The World Marathon Majors, also known as the Big Six, is a championship-
style competition for marathonrunners that started in 2006. It comprises si
annual races !"#e 2006$20%%, four 20%2& for the cities of Tokyo!startin' in 20%(&,
)%* )2* +oston, ,ondon, +erlin, -hica'o and .ew /ork -ity !2006$%%, 20%($&, a
0iennial race, theI112 World -hampionships Marathon, and a 3uadrennial race,
the 4lympic 5ames Marathon. 6ach WMM series spans two calendar years7 the
second year of a series o#erlaps with the "rst year of the net.)(*
1thletes who compete in the marathons recei#e points for "nishin' in any of the
top "#e places !%st 287 2nd %87 (rd %07 9th 8 and 8th %&. Their four hi'hest ranks
o#er the two-year period will 0e counted7 if an athlete scores points in more than
this num0er, the athlete:s four 0est races will 0e scored. To 0e eli'i0le for the
jackpot, an athlete must compete in at least one 3ualifyin' race in each calendar
year of the series.)9*

competition the tie0reakers were head-to-head competition and, if necessary, a
majority #ote of the "#e WMM race directors. This happened in the 200;$0<
woman:s competition.
+e'innin' in 200=$%0 followin' 0est head-to-head record, the followin' tie-
0reakers were implemented, in descendin' order> the person who achie#ed his or
her points in the fewest races, the person who won the most ?ualifyin' @aces
durin' the period, the person with the fastest a#era'e time in their scorin' races,
and a majority #ote of the si race directors. If the "nal circumstance is necessary,
the @ace Airectors may award the title jointly.
1t the end of each WMM series the leadin' man and woman each win B800,000,
makin' a total priCe of one million D.E. dollars.)8* The competition has completed
se#en race series since its inception.

Eunday in .o#em0er. It was ori'inally a part of the World Marathon Majors
foundin' 'roup, and has participated since the start in 2006. In 20%2, the ./-
Marathon was cancelled due to aftermath of Euperstorm Eandy which caused
political disa'reements in the city of .ew /ork.)6* -onse3uently, the .ew /ork -ity
Marathon was not an acti#e part of the World Marathon Majors for the year 20%2.
In 20%(, the marathon resumed as per usual.
