INT.
HOTEL ROOM
DAYTIME
ELDON LIVERMORE (30) is lying face-down on the settee, fast
asleep. He awakens, realising the time, and runs out of the
room, slamming the door behind him.
INT. TUBE DAYTIME
ELDON presses his oyster card to the reader, rushing onto the
train. He sits on the packed tube carriage, sandwiched
uncomfortably between strangers. The train pulls in to the
next station and he pushes his way off the carriage .
EXT. STREET
DAYTIME
ELDON is walking in haste when his phone rings again. He takes
it out and answers it.
ELDON
Morning Mum. I cant do your shopping today, I have no car.
(Pause) The engines gone. (Pause) I dont know mum, Im not a
mechanic. (Pause) Im not raising my voice mum. (Frustratedly)
Look, Ive got to go, Im late. (Pause) Im not making
excuses, Im late. (Pause) I (stutters), hello? Mum? Ugh!!
Exasperated, ELDON checks his watch then continues walking
quickly.
INT. RECEPTION DAYTIME
ELDON types the pin into the door key pad and continues down
the school corridor.
INT. CORRIDOR DAYTIME
ELDON walks down the corridor and sees a student, JAMES
exiting the staff bathroom. He stops him.
ELDON
James! What are you doing, thats a staff toilet! Wait
outside.
ELDON walks into the bathroom and looks around, but nothing
seems out of place. He comes back out and JAMES is gone, then
continues his walk down the corridor. He gets to his
classroom, looks through the glass and leans back against the
wall as if steeling himself to enter. A teacher emerges from
the classroom.
Ms FENN
Mr Livermore (she lowers her voice) Eldon, are you ok?
ELDON
Yes, thanks for starting the class for me. The car wouldnt
start and I had to get the tube. I tried to call you but
anyway, how are they?
MS FENN
Theyre fine. Look Eldon, if you ever need to talk, I am here.
I hope you dont mind me saying it but you look a mess.
Werent you wearing that suit yesterday? Sorry, its probably
none of my business. Its just that some of the staff are
starting to talk and, well, Im worried about you, thats all.
MS FENN smiles at ELDON reassuringly and walks away down the
corridor. The noise level in the classroom increases and he
takes a deep breath before walking in.
CUT TO.
INT. CLASSROOM DAYTIME
ELDON sits at his desk, going through his emails as there is a
knock at the door.
ELDON
Come in.
ELDON looks at the door but no one enters, and there is no one
visible through the glass. ELDON shrugs then turns back to his
computer. Another knock.
ELDON
Yes (louder), come in.
Again, no one enters so ELDON gets up and opens the door.
There is no one there so he exits the class.
INT. CORRIDOR DAYTIME
ELDON turns the corner. Standing four feet from him is JAMES
chuckling.
ELDON
James, did you just knock on my door?
JAMES
When sir?
ELDON
Just now.
JAMES
Just now sir?
ELDON
Yes, twice.
JAMES
Twice sir?
ELDON
(Frustrated) Yes James, twice. Did you knock or not?
JAMES
No sir, not twice.
ELDON
Fine. James what happened this morning, I asked you to wait
for me?
JAMES
I dont know, I didnt hear you.
ELDON
Oh you didnt hear me? Thats it, youve got detention with me
at 3.30pm.
JAMES
What?! For what?
ELDON
Just be there at 3.30pm.
ELDON turns around and heads back to his classroom.
JAMES
(Still in earshot) But I didnt do anything! Prick.
ELDON turns and walks back towards JAMES.
ELDON
Please tell me I misheard you, James.
JAMES
You did sir.
ELDON
What did I mishear then?
JAMES
Dont know sir. I was just agreeing with you.
ELDON looks at JAMES as he stares back at him. The bell rings.
ELDON turns walks off in the direction of his classroom.
CUT TO:
INT. ELDONS CLASSROOM DAYTIME
ELDON
Stefan Schuller.
Minoli De Silva.
Leah McPhail.
Partiban Ramasamy.
James Mondua-
JAMES
Its MONDA sir, the U is silent
ELDON looks up at JAMES and the class goes quiet. He sighs.
ELDON
Okay, for the rest of the lesson I want complete silence. Turn
to page 19, read it, and make notes.
James gets up and walks toward the door.
ELDON
James, where are you going?
JAMES
(Without turning) Toilet.
ELDON
James, you cant just get up and leave.
JAMES turns and walks back towards him.
JAMES
But I need the toilet, youre not going to stop me.
ELDON
I think youll find I can. And are you chewing gum?
JAMES
No sir, thats against the rules.
ELDON
James, I can see you chewing.
JAMES
Its a cough sweet. Im ill. Why are you picking on me?
ELDON
What?
JAMES
Youre bullying me. First you put me in detention when I
didnt do anything, then you stop me from going to the toilet
even though Im bursting, you accuse me of breaking the rules
when I havent and pick on me when Im ill. Im going to
complain to MR ANDERSON.
JAMES turns around to walk off and ELDON grabs him but JAMES
pushes his hand away making him stumble and lose his footing.
JAMES laughs, takes out his phone and takes a photograph of
ELDON on the floor, who gets on his feet and snatched JAMES
phone from him.
ELDON
WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? HUH?! HUH?!!
The student in the class stand around them, observing. Some
have their camera phones out. ELDON walks over to the nearest
child with her phone out and grabs it, smashing it on the
ground.
STUDENT
Sir! You cant do that! Thats my phone!
ELDON turns around and charges at JAMES. Terrified, JAMES
tussles back and ELDON releases his grip.
OTHER STUDENTS
Thats out of order. And he attacked James!
ELDON backs away, dropping JAMES phone and running out the
classroom as the student move to see if JAMES is alright.
INT. CORRIDOR DAYTIME
ELDON runs down the corridor, down a flight of stairs, away
from the scene.
EXT LOCATION- FIELD
ELDON runs into the nearby field, pulls out his cell phone and
dials CHARLOTTES number. She doesnt answer. ELDON calls the
phone again only to be cut off by CHARLOTTE.
ELDON
WHY?!
ELDONS phone rings. ELDON looks down and realises its
CHARLOTTE.
ELDON
Hello? Charlotte wait- I dont want to argue! Just let me
speak to her let me speak to my daughter.
FADE OUT
ABBY
Daddy?
