ABOUT THE PROGRAMS
The Department of Nursing at Holy Names University has provided
education for nurses since 1934. Currently there are three undergraduate programs in nursing offered at Holy Names University and for three
distinct populations. The LVN to BSN program is designed for licensed
vocational nurses who wish to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree and
licensure as a Registered Nurse while employed. The RN to BSN program
is designed for Registered Nurses who have an associate degree and who
wish to acquire a bachelor of science degree while employed. The other
undergraduate program is a generic nursing program offered in partnership with Samuel Merritt University for high school graduates who are
interested in becoming Registered Nurses. There are also graduate programs available for those nurses interested in advanced opportunities.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Current LVN license
Letter of Recommendation
Official transcripts from all universities and colleges attended
TOEFL score if born outside the US and English is a second language
Proof of high school graduation (or equivalency) if student
has completed less than 30 units
An interview

The Department of Nursing at Holy Names University offers a program
for LVNs that provides preparation for the RN license and the Bachelor of
Science degree. The program is seven semesters in length and is offered in
a consecutive manner (Fall, Spring & Summer) so it can completed in 2
years, if registered in sufficient units each semester. In addition, students
are offered the opportunity to test out of the first two courses in nursing. Any general education courses required in the program that were
completed at a community college or a four year college/university and
are equivalent by units and content can be transferred to HNU. Students
are admitted each semester. The program includes 83 units of coursework required by the California Board of Registered Nursing and 37 units
of other required courses. Students must successfully complete 120 units

PUBLIC HEALTH
Completion of the LVN/BSN program prepares the student for the
Public Health Nurse Certificate. After completion of the program, the
student must submit a Holy Names transcript and an application to
the California Board of Registered Nursing (CBRN) in Sacramento. A
copy of the application can be obtained from the website of the CBRN.
