Understanding Olive Oil - Part 8

Elderly people have lower caloric needs than younger individuals. A well-balanced diet for seniors should contain 25-30% of calories from monounsaturated fats like olive oil to reduce cholesterol. Olive oil is ideal for seniors as it is highly digestible, has mild laxative effects, increases appetite, and aids vitamin absorption. Nutritionists recommend seniors consume protein, calcium-rich dairy, olive oil for its antioxidants, iron-rich foods, fruits and vegetables, and drink plenty of water.
