IN TRODUCTION
The Objective of the Course:
The objective of this book is to provide a complete course about properly reading
the holy Quran based on the Uthmani script. The book is designed for adults and
children alike with no or little previous knowledge of Arabic language. The book
encourages the use of the Uthmani script because it provides a system of particular signs,
making it a more precise way of learning the recitation of the Quran.
The Structure of this Book:
The book consists of ten sections as follows:

The Arabic alphabet, the short vowels or Harakaat ( ,

non-connected forms of the Arabic letters. This section consists of three key
sections, with each concluding with a series of practice exercises with typical words
from Quran.
The connected form of the Arabic letters.
The Saakinah (or stationary) letters. This section is concluded with a practice exercise
from Quran.
The Madd (long vowels) letters. This section consists of three key sections, each
finishing with a series of exercises with words and verses from Quran.
At-Tanween. This section is concluded with a practice exercise with words and verses
from Quran.
The Ash-Shaddah. This section is concluded with a practice exercise from Quran.
Hamzat-ul-wassl, laam at-Tareef and Rules of Stopping. These sections basically
help the learner start reciting complete verses, with each concluding with a series of
practice exercise from Quran.
Finally Al-Hamza. This section consists of one key section, and similar to the other
sections, concludes with practice exercise.

How to use this Book:

This book is well structured for a course which can be broken based on the
sections. Each incremental section builds on the previous one, while bridging the
connections through the reviews and the practice exercises. .

Study Tips:
The Quraan is the word of Allaah and it is recited as an act of worship. The
Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Whoever reads
one letter from the Book of Allaah will earn one good (Hasanah) thereby. One good deed
is equal to ten good deeds the like of it. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Meem is a letter, but
Alif is a letter, Laam is a letter and Meem is a letter.. So do not miss this wonderful
opportunity and learn how to read Al-Quran . This books purpose is just that. If you are
a beginner do not attempt to skip lessons or levels. The course is designed as a step-bystep guide and each part needs to be properly mastered before moving into the more

complex material. It is highly advisable to involve a knowledgeable teacher who has

knowledge of the proper way to recite Quran and who can give the appropriate guidance
on how to pronounce words correctly.
The book does not translate the words purposely since it is written to focus the
student on reading and listening before moving on to comprehension.
Also it is highly recommended that along with this course the student is
introduced to the Learn to write Arabic part I and II. It is a necessary skill that needs to
be learned and mastered for full language comprehension.
Reference:
At the end there is a reference section to enable the student to follow up with
specific information and guidance.
May Allah bless this effort to contribute to the more widespread and continued
reading of the Holy Quran. I also pray that through this work many will take upon
themselves the great task of learning Arabic as a language with the sole purpose to

The meaning of Harakaat:
It is the plural of the Arabic word Harakah
 and it means

The meaning of Saakin:
It means stationary. That is a letter with no movement on it
Stationary.
The way it is written:
A Saakin letter either does not have any Harakah on it or it
has a Sukoon sign

on it.

Note: a Saakin letter is always preceded by a letter with a

Harakah on it

The Qualities to be considered for the Arabic

letters with Sukoon
The Qalqalah (shaking) letters

The Meaning of Tanween:
It is a Noon Saakinah that occurs at the end of nouns ( 1).

Types of Tanween:
There are three types of Tanween:
1. Tanween Fat-hah: that is pronounced with Fathah on the letter joined to Noon
