Reflection #1: Commitment to Public Interest

How can you show your commitment to public interest?

I remember a quote by Abraham Lincoln, the excerpt phrase reads,


government of the people, by the people and for the people.. . This maxim
really caught my senses as it now become a clich for many of us. It became
an overly use expression or catch phrase but has never been taken into
serious actions. The word people connotes public; and we as government
officials, the public should and must always be our outmost priority.
However, how could we be committed to the public when earthly influence
and vested interest has always been behind our backs? They are like Trojan
horses trying to lure the public and blend themselves for them to look good
and once trust is given; they will attack like creepy monsters and or deadly
villain trying to get and steal away anything thats important to us.
Graphically, that has been the worst scenario progressively happening in our
government arena. Maybe not all but significantly it became a rampant
dialogue and scene to many of us. We learned from news of all sources how
public officials and in the civil service orchestrated and fabricated
government records, appropriations and funds and sadly this is all for their
own well-being and selfish ends. They become a subject of change rather
than being the catalyst of it.
Moreover, I believe there is always a room for growth and be able to grasp
any single hope for the so-called elusive change is always been possible.
Hence, for someone to achieve commitment to the public and their interest
one must lead by example. They should be at all times effective and efficient
to their job contracts, obligations and responsibilities; public funds and
properties should be utilize and use accordingly; and uphold honesty and
sincerity towards public service.
We hope to see a better and strong government if all of these are taken into
consideration. Everything must be rooted deeply in us. A government
committed to the public is a nation that promises progress and development.
We could all be committed and be of service to the public only if we dare to
make actions and to never lose sight of the inner purpose of what service
should be.
