An Open Letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Dear Pradhan Sevak Modiji,
We take the liberty of addressing you in this manner as we are not intimidated by your status
as the Prime Minister of the worlds largest democracy but find in you a sympathetic soul that
responds to the common mans weals and woes and the humblest of his needs as demonstrated
by your call for toilets for everyone, a pressing need all over the country but which was never
ever thought of and addressed by any of your predecessors in office.
Jyotisha is one of the most ancient sciences known to mankind but still in its infancy in
terms of explored potential for the simple reason it has been denied its legitimate place in the
comity of sciences and therefore, its study and practice have been denied official recognition.
It is our fervent appeal and plea to you , Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the first Prime
Minister ever of our country, who truly is Indian to the core and is proud of all things Indian,
to give Jyotisha its rightful place in the academic system of our country. Astrology, as it has
come to be known , is Indias greatest gift to humanity waiting to be tapped for its immense
potential as a tool of foreknowledge in almost every area of life national and individual.
Mr. Prime Minister, you will be doing the country and also the world a great service if only
you can help astrology gain official recognition by inviting it into the University corridors and
incorporating it in our educational curricula.
DR. B.V.RAMAN (1912- 1998), the FATHER OF MODERN ASTROLOGY, worked all his
life for the cause of astrology. In fact, a far reaching event of the 20th century and in some
ways, more important than any other, was Dr.Ramans crusade for astrology with its origins in
our country but inundating western shores and engaging the serious attention of thinkers around
the world. Dr.Ramans name is today synonymous with astrology. He not only took astrology
to the west and the rest of the world but more importantly, revived and rejuvenated the science
in the country of its origin creating new respect for it amongst the intelligentsia. He demystified
astrology presenting it as an academic discipline which could be studied as any other subject
such as maths, physics, history, literature etc. If today, there are people all over the country
drawn from different academic and professional backgrounds engaged in the study of Jyotisha,
the credit should unequivocally go to Dr. Raman.

Astrology, Mr.Prime Minister, is an integral part of our social life and is resorted to for
guidance and hope by millions around the country in times of crisis and difficulty. Yet, to
repeat, it has been denied its rightful place in the Universities and blocked by elements who
consider themselves secular thinkers though there is no religious factor involved in the study
of Jyotisha.
Astrology is of great import in decision-making, especially where national interest and
security are involved apart from of course, in individual lives. It is a tool par excellence in
identifying periods (often to the exact date) whenterrorist and anti-national forces, anti-social and communal trouble-makers could unleash acts of violent terror. There is no denying
the fact that foreknowledge of such dates can be a boon in handling such violent trends , especially in combination with inputs from Intelligence and other sources. Several such dates and
periods have been regularly accurately anticipated in the pages of MODERN ASTROLOGY and its
predecessor THE ASTROLOGICAL MAGAZINE (1936-2007) for many decades. Despite such potential to safeguard national interest, it is tragic that Jyotisha is being meted out step-motherly
treatment and ignored in the country of its origin.
Jyotisha, Mr.Prime Minister, is a science that has been bequeathed to posterity by the great
Rishis of ancient India with the sole objective of Loka Kalyana or the welfare of humanity.
This science if approached with humility and an open mind is bound to contribute greatly to
the well-being of the nation.
Mr.Prime Minister, the time is now ripe for you to take the bold step of pushing for the
entry of astrology into the formal educational system of our country. Please do it. Now.
