WHERE PURPOSE WINS AND PASSION LINGERS: A FAIR OF NGOs

Reaching that closest point towards graduation comes with the


struggle of choosing the path to take. The thing is, it doesnt get easier for
anyone in any field.
For those studying Development Communication, the possibilities are
vast and endless. They can be out in the fields, doing social work or
researches. They can work for the sector of the society they deeply care for
as well as advocate their beliefs by being part of the organization which
embodies it.
In the Philippines, many Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) exist
nowadays, responding to a social calling and advancing ways to fulfill
societys needs. Thats why it is not surprising that the youth is slowly
developing an inclination to start their careers with NGOs. With the growing
state of the industry, it is becoming an ideal place to initiate social change.
On April 27, 2015, advocacies, services and programs of several NGOs
were shared under the sun at the Quadrangle of College of Development
Communication (CDC), University of the Philippines Los Baos (UPLB),
Laguna for the NGO fair dubbed as Yugto: Alin ang Tatahakin. Organized by
the UPLB Development Communicators Society, the activity seeks to orient
the DEVCOMM students about pioneering institutions of the industry as they
come nearer to the end of their academic pursuit.
Booths were set up in the place, gathering students and the
representatives of the organizations. Joining the roster is the Philippine
Fundraising

Solutions,

Inc

(PFSI).

PFSI

Administration

and

Corporate

Communications Manager Ms. Czarina Balquin-Canceran and Managing


Director for Corporate Affairs Christiecelia Arquiza gave an overview of the

company, as it stands as the first Filipino-owned firm to provide fundraising


services for NGOs.

Also present in the activity were Center for Womens Resources, Global
Alliance for Rabies Control, Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc., Magsasaka
at Siyentipiko para sa Pag-unlad ng Agrikultura (MASIPAG), Integrated
Development Program for the Indigenous People, Affiliated Network for Social
Accountability in East Asia and the Pacific, and UPLB Vice Chancellor for
Research and Extension.
While it takes a certain degree of preparation to determine ones
course of work, it takes a helping hand to widen out horizons which some
might not have been exposed to before. In the world of NGOs, it is a
guaranteed fact that purpose and passion supersede all limitations. It is in
this opportunity where everyone is welcome and called for.
