Match Report;
RICHARDSON TO THE RESCUE!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------Perth,WA | On his first carry Trent Richardson shaked and
baked his way for a 21 yard run signalling the Wollongong
Miners had a new threat on offense. Richardson was
buoyant from the opening minutes to the end. When
carrying the football he played with a spark and when off
the field his energy was infectious. "He has given us a
rallying point no doubt" said Quarterback Richie Davis
after the game. "He has a big reason to show he deserves
a spot on an NFL team. So far he has shown he has the
attitude and the ability" Davis added.
Wollongong came out firing on all cylinders and
put together an 11 play scoring drive to start. Francis
Elliott who started at Running Back ahead of Richardson
ploughed up the middle to score. Wollongong extended it
to 10-0 before Perth responded with Anthony Creighton
breaking open a 48 yard run with speed to get the
Cougars on the board. "It was a disappointing loss. We
have not shown enough to say we are a play off team"
said Coach John Simon. Despite this his team responded
well going into halftime with another touchdown to
Creighton and a field goal. The lead could have been even
bigger as Keiron Geia missed a 50 yarder but at 17-10
Perth looked in control.
But Wollongong again came out of the gates
running. A long 18 play drive was capped off with Tight
End Wesley Pittman making an amazing catch over two
defenders for the score. Both teams match field goals
before one final effort by the visitors set up Kicker Tyrone
Reiche from the 20 with just two seconds left. He kicked
straight and the Miners recorded back to back wins for the
first time this season.
