Its all happening here

All personal meetings are destined to take place; professional meetings need to be planned.
This idea, which gained momentum at MaxiMICE 2009, brought to the fore one of the
primary ways of doing business - networking. Since time immemorial, peoples literary and
oratory skills have gained prominence and these skills have been instrumental in creating
history. The same goes for business - great speakers with great ideas have often made
the mark in taking the company by leaps and bounds, and this old-school way of doing
business will not die any time soon. So be it meetings, which need detailed planning,
whatever objective it may have, it is essential that the discipline of a system of meetings
and discussions be maintained to optimise results.
An extension of this idea of meetings are those that are taken outside the office - be it for
a motivational purpose or simply to award the best performers. A short change in environ
has always been favourable to the development of the humane race, and the science
of human behaviour has in essence led to the evolution of what we now know as the
meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry. And thus, at the recent
MaxiMICE conference hosted by EVENTFAQS in partnership with Tourism Australia, the
essence of planning a MICE programme down to every detail to bring in the desired results,
was unanimously acquiesced.
When it comes to results as the de facto motto of any initiative within a company, the briefs
given to any kind of agency thus has to fulfill in bringing home to the client the desired
and expected results. There is no dearth of ideas, but the challenge lies in executing the
ideas into ground realities. But when the ideas move from the storyboard to the ground
successfully, and then bring in the desired results of high visibility or sales, then surely, the
purpose of the creative communication has been successful. And this exactly is the premise
of the WOW Awards, which debuted in 2009, wherein several of its winners went on to win
at Promotional Marketing Awards of Asia (PMAA) and other international award festivals
for promotions and experiential marketing. If agencies were to enter work in international
award shows for the pure play event management business, perhaps well find the best of
India shining there too.
So it is the time for sending in entries for WOW Awards 2010, which adds to the furtive
reverie of agencies, which are already pulling up their socks to the festive season. This year
Mumbai was witness to the Bandra festival which is an initiative by Fountainhead Events and
Promotions, and it surely managed to get a community together to celebrate a geography
of eclectic interests. As this year also draws to an end and agencies scamper to get their
clients noticed in every feasible way, it is not unusual that multiplexes - the new haven for
luxury film viewing - are the most sought-after sites for activations by brands. This year was
also another breakthrough year for those who work in the realm of ideas - TED was here
in India and 1,000 delegates did not miss the chance to be enthralled by the speakers from
diverse backgrounds.
The industry is growing and ideas anew are being generated each day. But how many will
really make it to meeting their objectives? WOW Awards 2010 is the benchmark to look
out for.

he Hindu Friday Review

November
Festival took place from
November 17-22, 2009,
at the Music Academy
in Chennai. The event,
since inception five years
ago, has been handled by
Showspace. The property
owned by The Hindu is also marketed by the newspaper brand.
Bose Corporation has been the presenting sponsor for the past
couple of years now.
Pointing out that the festival was held in November and thus acted
as a curtain raiser for the famous music season of Chennai, Hariharan, Director, Showspace, said, As before, this years fest brings
genres of music to Chennai that are novel and interesting. We focus on promoting this as a pre-cursor to the annual music season
and stay away from the Carnatic classical music that the season
will offer.
According to Hariharan, the annual ticketed event runs a fullhouse every year. This year too, we already have received a lot
of bookings, with two shows already sold out, he informed.
