The University of Glasgow was founded in 1451 and is the

fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world. It has
inspired the minds of seven Nobel Laureates, one Prime
Minister and the countrys first female medical graduates.
With past graduates including the economist, Adam Smith,
and the innovator of television, John Logie Baird, Glasgow
alumni have been achieving greatness throughout history.

While proud of its history and traditions, the University is

continuously developing and looking to the future. Since 2001,
300 million has been spent on improving the facilities, with
another 160 million invested by the end of 2015. Its goal is to
create an academic and cultural district for its 25,000 students,
incorporating Glasgows fabulous museums and galleries with
the University's impressive history.

The University has links to over 4,500 employers and its Club 21
Business Partnership Scheme offers students work placements
at over 170 businesses around the world, such as Santander
and T-Mobile. The Universitys Career Service hosts hundreds of
networking events which help over 94% of Glasgow graduates

The Universitys Sport & Recreation service offers an impressive

daily timetable of exercise classes and sport sessions, as well
as state-of-the-art facilities including fitness suites, squash and

Garscube Sports Complex provide a wide range of indoor
and outdoor activities for all students, and with two student

regular meetings with your own Learning Support Tutor, who will
answer your questions and encourage you to come prepared

your progress and better prepare you for university.

As a student at the International College, you will be given a

University ID card giving you access to many of the Universitys

Our warm and welcoming college staff will fully support you while you prepare
for university. With us by your side, you will have the confidence to embrace new
experiences, exciting opportunities and form lifelong friendships.
Getting ready for a new life

Your first week

Support for parents

Get involved

Our support starts even before you arrive in Glasgow.

Contact our advisors and we will be happy to answer any of
your questions, big or small. Youll also receive a pre-arrival
guide, full of essential information and advice for your journey.

During the first week, you will meet your teachers and be
introduced to your course and the modules you will study.
Staff will show you around the campus and point out the
facilities that you can use, such as libraries, sports halls and
computers. In addition, we organise a tour of Glasgow and
provide important information, such as how to find a local
doctor or set up a bank account.

We have made a useful parents guide to help answer parents

questions about studying and living in the UK. All parents
receive an invitation to our parents event during the first week
of your course, where they can join campus and city tours and
meet key college staff. We also send parents regular updates
on your academic progress and well-being, as well as offer an
extra guardianship service for students under the age of 18.

Support when you need it

Study and play

Our student services team is based on site at the College and

is completely dedicated to making sure you are happy during
your time in Glasgow. From welfare and academic assistance,
to travel and accommodation guidance, the team are available
to offer friendly advice and answer any questions you may have
throughout the year. Special arrangements are also put in place
for students with disabilities and we welcome all to apply.

All of us at GIC really want you to enjoy studying in Glasgow

and to make the most of all the fun opportunities that this
unique experience has to offer. The student services team
organises different social activities throughout each term
including visits to local Scottish attractions, events and festivals.

With a legendary reputation for friendliness, it is no surprise

that the UKs fourth biggest city has the slogan: People make
Glasgow. The 598,830 locals are at the heart of the welcoming
atmosphere of Glasgow and are a big reason why it is the most
desirable place to live in Scotland (Royal Mail, 2014).

The host of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the city of

Glasgow has benefited from a massive 2 billion investment.
Many of the world-class sporting facilities are now open to the
public, so you too can reach top speeds on your bicycle at the
Chris Hoy Velodrome or take a dip in Tollcross International
Swimming Centre one of the biggest in Europe!

With over 90 parks and green spaces, Glasgow has more

parkland than any other UK city and is considered one of
Europes greenest cities. Enjoy all four of the UKs seasons
in the parks; build a snowman in winter, see flowers bloom in
spring, share a picnic in the summer sun with friends, and take
a walk among the golden leaves of autumn.

There are stunning locations easily accessible little more

than an hour from Glasgow. You can swim in the beautiful
Loch Lomond, or climb some spectacular mountains in the
Trossachs National Park. In this natural playground, there are
plenty of activities on offer such as skiing, surfing, rock climbing
and mountain biking.

Glasgows West End is well known for its trendy student scene.
On the edge of the University campus, Ashton Lane is a
magical little cobblestone street, lined with glowing festive lights

watching the latest hit films.

Glasgow has over 20 fascinating museums and art galleries,

more than 100 cultural organisations and six stunning theatres,
including Scotlands most visited attraction, the Kelvingrove
Art Gallery and Museum, home to over 8,000 artefacts from
around the world. Or, for a taste of true Scottish culture, enjoy a

Unconditional offer: there are no conditions to fulfil or
additional documents to submit.

Plan ahead by ensuring you have sufficient funds to study in

the UK.
You must have evidence of holding at least 820 for each month
of your Glasgow International College course, up to a maximum
of nine months, plus any unpaid tuition fees. This must be held
