will honor Janai Luwum, an Archbishop of Uganda who was martyred in 1977 in the purges of Idi Amin.
SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE DINNER, 9 February 5PM
Again this year the St. Dunstan's men will host, prepare and cook a Pancake Dinner for members of our
church, neighbors and friends for "Fat Tuesday." This dinner is one of our traditions of Lent. Please join us.
ST. DUNSTANS EPISCOPAL CHURCH LENTEN CHAIN FAST
This year, as in some previous years, St. Dunstans will have a Lenten Chain Fast. It begins on Ash
Wednesday, February 10, and continues until Easter. In this chain, the fast is passed from person to person,
each person fasting for the designated day and then calling the nest person on the chain to pass the fast on.
Money that would otherwise be spent on food will then be placed in the collection plate on Sunday and then
donated to the Loaves and Fishes food pantry. You can sign up for this chain either at church or by calling up
the coordinator, Diana Gazis (422-3697) to find a day.
BOWL OF BURDENS
Beginning with Ash Wednesday, February 10th, we go from ordinary time in the church calendar to the
beginning of Lent. This is traditionally a time of prayer in preparation for Easter. Lent is a time to think about
one's life choices and mortality, as well as to reflect on one's life direction. There are no altar flowers,
signifying the solemnity of the season as well as reflecting this cold and quiet time of year when we anticipate
Spring and Jesus' Resurrection from the dead.
Also, the big ceramic bowl filled with rock salt will again be next to the font. We can write our burdens on a
slip of paper and then bury them in the salt as a way of releasing them to God. Immediately following the
Good Friday liturgy, all of these burdens will be burned and thus being transformed into the light of the
Resurrection.
Movie and Pizza night!
Join us for fun, food, fellowship and a great movie! Friday, February 19 starting at 5:30 pm we will gather in
the Lottie Horn Room. Various delicious pizzas will be provided from Angelo's and beverages as well. Salads
and desserts will be welcome. The movie is A Walk In The Woods with Robert Redford, Nick Nolte and
Emma Thompson. Sign up in the parish hall so we know how many pizzas to get and come, join the fun!

A note from our treasurers:

please contact StDunstansTreasurer@gmail.com
Bless you all for your continuing support of our wonderful church!

Lets Keep the Coffee Perking
Thanks to all of you who made our 2015 coffee hours a success. A sign up sheet for 2016 coffee hours is posted
downstairs by the door on the bulletin board. Please sign up or sign up with a buddy to host a Sunday. Funds
are available from ECW to help with the cost and help is always on hand for clean up. If your schedule cant
accommodate hosting or co-hosting, but you could bring in an item to share, that would be appreciated as
well. Please see Tracy Shaffer for details.
OOPS! HERE ARE A FEW REPORTS THAT WERE MISTAKENLY OMITTED FROM
THE 2015 ANNUAL REPORT.
LAY READERS AND ACOLYTES 2015
The last 12 months was successful and rewarding. As director of lectors and acolytes it has been a
pleasure to work with many of our faithful brothers and sisters. We truly have helped spread the word of the
Lord to our many visitors and ourselves by this ministry.
Our chalice bearers, servers and crucifers were Jim Newett, Dianne Kelley, David Wells, Dan DeLong,
Andrew Chattin, Jerry Whitney, Caiden Chattin, and Diana Gazis.
The word of the Lord has been spoken by many wonderful members of our church community. They
are Marion Frehill, Diana Gazis, Dianne Kelley, Jim Newett, George Stevens, Marian Wells, Muffet Stewart,
Jean Rohrer, Andrew Chattin, Harvey Kelley, Tracy Shaffer, Karl Haller, Bill Thomas and Sarah Whalen.
We also have been blessed by faithful lay worship leaders, who have lead Morning Prayer. They are
Andrew Chattin, Diana Gazis, Bill Thomas, and Dianne Kelley.
I would like to thank all of you so very much for your faith, love, care and commitment.
Faithfully yours,
Dianne Kelley
WELCOME COMMITTEE REPORT TO SAINT DUNSTANS
Over the summer, the Senior Warden called for a Welcome Committee to be convened. The committee met
on August 23 and documented the steps and activities we would take to greet newcomers and ensure that
information is provided to the church office so that further communication can occur if desired by the guest.
It was also agreed that child guests would receive a welcome bag with activities that would make their service
experience even more enjoyable. The ushers will help pass these out when a guest is identified. Our thanks to
BJ Fallica for making this recommendation.
On behalf of the parish, the Sunday School children received an activity bag from Mother Johanna during
their tour of the altar and sacristy this fall.
Current Welcome Committee Members are:
Georgianna Pulver
Tracy Shaffer
Muffet Stewart
David Wells
Marian Wells
If you are interested in joining this committee, please contact David Wells.

IN OUR COMMUNITY:
A note from Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry:
With the sudden dip in temperatures we would like to ask for contributions of warm winter hats for adults
and children. These could be hand knit or new, purchased hats and may be left at the pantry any Monday,
Wednesday or Friday morning until 11 AM. A full tummy and a cozy warm hat can do so much for one's
sense of well being as we face the colder months. Thanks for your help.
Please continue bringing plastic grocery bags and food for the Little Red Wagon. Thanks!
Did you know? Ellsworths Home Depot and Healthy Acadia are partnering to offer an indoor walking group
at Home Depot beginning January 28th, 2016 at 6:15 AM. The walking group will meet on Tuesday and
Thursday mornings at 6:15 AM throughout the winter months. The YMCA is also available for indoor walking;
Tuesday and Thursday from 11-12.

Remember to wear your nametags each Sunday!
