A Study On Customer Satisfaction at Tamilnadu Asbestos Sheets LTD by

The document provides an overview of the asbestos industry. It discusses how asbestos has been used for over 2000 years and was widely used in industries starting in the late 1800s due to its heat resistant and insulating properties. Asbestos was commonly used in insulation for steam pipes, boilers, ovens and other applications. While asbestos was seen as a valuable material, its harmful health effects from inhalation of asbestos fibers were known even to ancient Greeks and Romans. The usage of asbestos declined in industries in the mid-1900s as the health risks became more widely known.

PROFILES
INDUSTRY PROFILE
INDUSTRY PROFILE

Turner Brothers were the first to manufacture asbestos in the year

1880 just by employing five people. By 1900, fifty people were employed.
By 1910, that number had grown to three hundred. By the inter war period,
the company ( then known Turner & Newall ) became a top 100 UK
company with annual profit exceeding ₤1 million.
Asbestos has been used for more than 2000 years. It was named by
the Ancient Greeks, its name meaning “inextinguishable”. The Greeks also
noted its harmful biological effects. Even though the greek geographer
strabo and the roman naturalist pliny the elder both observed the “ the
sickness of the lungs ”in the slaves that wove asbestos into cloth, they were
in such awe of asbestos seemingly magical properties that they ignored the
symptom.

USAGE OF ASBESTOS

Use of asbestos declined the middle ages, yet some say that
Charlemagne had asbestos table cloths. Asbestos use was brought back in
the 1700s, but did not become popular until the industrial revolution during
the late 1800s. it then began to be used as insulation for steam pipes,
turbines, boilers , ovens, and other high temperature products.
Asbestos has become a very real asset in the home. Although it is
originally a mineral substance, it is nevertheless of a fibrous nature, and can
therefore be woven into fabrics and formed into boards. Its greatest virtue
lies in the fact that it is fire proof, and as it is bad conductor of hest, it has
great value in many household uses.

Asbestos Tablemats are also very popular as a means of preventing

hot plates and dishes instead of cloths. The asbestos mats can be obtained
with charming embroidered or otherwise decorated, slips covers.

Asbestos Tiles such as are used for roofing purposes, are

exceptionally useful in kitchen, as a hot dish or saucepan can be placed on
them without the fear of marketing or burning the tables. When the weather
is frosty the tragedy of frozen pipes can be avoided by binding the exposed
parts with asbestos cord. This prevents the heat from escaping, and equally
prevents the frost from affecting the pipes. An asbestos device of great
utility is the fibre-blower. This is just a sheet of asbestos mounted on a wire,
which refuses to burn up, and as it is fireproof it can be safely left in the
position until a cheerful blaze has appeared.

It is a good plan to have a sheet of asbestos in the house as a

safeguard against fire. If is spread across the hearth, flying sparks cannot
ignite the carpet or rug. If a spark does at any time start a fire it can be
prevented from spreading by throwing the asbestos cloth on the burning
material. Asbestos can also be bought in the loose fibrous form, and is
excellent for temporarily repairing leaking gas and water pipes. For this
purpose the asbestos fiber should be mixed to a thick paste with water glass,
spread over the holes or weak spot in the pipes and bound over the cloths.
