Getting Started

A CBT Nugget is a training video. Each CBT Nugget is video training delivered in a format that can be played on your computer.
Each nugget is a well -organized presentation designed to explain
difficult concepts in a way that promotes understanding for the
beginner as well as the expert. Teaching techniques employed by
the expert CBT Nuggets instructors have been tried and tested in
the corporate environment as well as in the classroom. Technic al
accuracy is combined with analogies and real- world examples to
promote a thorough understanding of the subject matter. Each
nugget targets a specific concept, and when combined with other
nuggets, allows you to receive comprehensive training that rivals
the most expensive instructor-led classroom training.
When you insert the CDROM into your CDROM Drive, the CBT
Nuggets Media Player will appear as shown below:

Figure 1
The player comes up initially without the playlist (Figure 1
above). Approximately 5 seconds later, the playlist will appear
(Figure 2 below). To start the movies, single-click on the movie
titles i n the playlist.

Figure 2

Getting Started

When you click on a movie title, the video will start playing in 2 40 seconds, depending on the speed of your computer and
CDROM drive. As the video starts, the playlist will collapse.
When you click on stop, or the video has finished playing, the
playlist will automatically expand. You can manually expand or
collapse the playlist at any time by clicking on the word playlist
at the top right of the player.

Full Screen Mode: The CBT Nuggets videos may be viewed

in full screen. If your screen resolution is 640x480, full screen
mode is automatic when you choose a video from the playlist.
For all other resolutions, click Full Screen from the View
menu, or click the button on the top left of the toolbar. To exit
from full screen mode and resume the video in the standard
mode, press the Esc key on your keyboard.

Moving Around Within a Video: At any point in a video,

you can press the pause button in the toolbar to pause the video,
and then the play button to resume. You can also advance 5
seconds by clicking on the right arrow or go back 5 seconds by
clicking on the left arrow in the toolbar. At the bottom of the
CBT Nuggets Media Player, there is a scroll bar that marks your
progress through a video. If you drag that marker in the scroll
bar to the left or to the right, you can advance to any point in
the video.

Using the Playlist: The playlist can be used to generate a

custom list of videos youd like to view. You can add these videos in any order and re- order them at any point. To add a single
video, click the first button (as seen in figure 3 below) in t he
playlist toolbar and browse to the respective video. To add all
the videos that reside in a particular directory, click the second
button and browse to the respective directory. You can re- order
the playlist by using the up and down arrows (after you select a
video in the playlist), or delete items from the playlist by clicking
on the X. Click the button third from the right to create a new
playlist, the button on the far right to save a playlist, or the button second from the right to open a previously saved playlist.
Each time the CDROM is inserted into the drive, youll be presented with the default playlist for that CBT Nuggets series.

FAQs

I'm a Beginner, are these videos for me?

CBT Nuggets videos take nothing for granted. We do not assume
prior knowledge beyond a very basic understanding of computers
and networks. One of our design goals was to ensure that the
beginner would not feel lost or confused. You will be presented
with advanced concepts, but not until you're ready.

I'm an expert, are these videos for me?

CBT Nuggets assume very little prior knowledge, which is good
for the beginner and expert alike for learning and/or reinforcing
critical foundational concepts. The videos are very comprehensive and will fill in the holes for technologies you may not have
experience or practice with. The videos start at a beginner level,
but progress through intermediate and advanced concepts. We
make it a point to NOT "glaze over" or "mention without explaining" difficult theoretical and practical concepts. Many current
MCSE's and MCT's have found our videos to be an overwhelmingly useful product for both test preparation and career deve lopment.

Do I need additional material or are these videos

all I need?
The CBT Nuggets videos are designed to be a solid, comprehe nsive, test preparation tool. Right from the beginning, when the
videos were storyboarded for content and flow, our main focus
was on complete comprehensive coverage of the exam obje ctives. Test preparation is the backbone and skeleton of our vi deos. Fortunately, we will hire no instructor that lacks real- world
experience, so the effective end- result becomes a video series
that is a thorough, comprehensive test preparation tool, but also
filled from beginning to end with the real scoop, how it really
happens, tips and tricks, lessons learned, training based on real
experience.

When were the NT4 Track CBT Nuggets training

videos produced?
These videos were created in October and November of 1999.
You won't be purchasing dated training. These vide os are current
and filled with real- world tips and advice.

When were the Windows 2000 Track CBT Nuggets

training videos produced?
These videos were created from October through December of
2000. Production did not start on the Windows 2000 MCSE series
until our instructor finished a 5 - month Windows 2000 deployment project.

FAQs

When were the A+ Series CBT Nuggets training

videos produced?
These videos were created from July through October of 2001.
The series is based on the recently updated CompTIA A+ Certification exam.

When were the Visual Basic CBT Nuggets training

videos produced?
These videos were created from August through N ovember of
2001.

Does CBT Nuggets recommend a viewing strategy?

Absolutely. We recommend you watch every video from start to
finish in each exam- pack for the series you purchased. Then
start at the beginning and watch again. Watch the videos for
each individual exam- pack and then take the respective test.
Learning specialists have determined that concepts presented to
us for the second time are easier to remember and "stick" better
than concepts we encounter for the first time. In addition, fo r the
MCSE 2000 series, each of the design electives (Microsoft e xams) rely heavily on knowledge gained in the first 4 core exams.
A good strategy would be to watch the 4 core exam- packs and
then the design elective exam- pack, then take the design elective exam.

How can I get my new high-paying job once I'm

certified?
We like the following 3 sites for online job searching:

http://www.dice.com

http://www.computerjobs.com

http://www.monster.com

Are these test-prep videos or do they focus on

real-world issues? Both. The backbone and skeletal system,
the very core of the CBT Nuggets curriculum is test preparation,
but we make extraordinary efforts to hire instructors that have a
great deal of current consulting and real- world experience to
draw on as they teach.

Can CBT Nuggets be useful to me after certification? The CBT Nuggets videos make an excellent reference. As
you embark on a project to deploy a certain technology, or get
an interview or job dealing with a certain technology, pop in the
30 minute video dealing with that technology to refresh and rei nforce your expertise. Every computer professional requires a reinforcement or refresher every now and then.

You launch an Exchange 5.5 movie that uses the Lotus Scree nCam Player (SCPLAYER.EXE) and receive the following error
message:
Cannot load required file (SCA32C10.DLL). If you have
Issue: This problem only appears to affect Windows 95, 98, and
Windows ME machines; and only a select few of those. It's possibly due to an audio or video driver on your computer that is not
written to Microsoft specifications. Please see

for detailed resolution instructions, including a test download file
to confirm resolution.

How do I play the videos in the NT4 MCSE Series?

The videos in the NT4 package were compressed using the
Sorensen codec. The only way to view those videos is with the
free player you can download from apple. Open Internet Explorer
and visit the following page to download and install the Quic kTime 4 player from Apple: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/

view CBT Nugget video.

Does the QuickTime 4 player cost anything?

No. The QuickTime viewer is free.

Technical Support

How do I install the QuickTime 4 player?

The file you download from Apple is called quicktimeinstaller.exe.
Double-click on this file within your Windows Explorer to start the
installation process. Make sure you are connected to the Internet
when you run this installation, as several files will be downloaded
from Apple as part of the installation.

Which videos require the QuickTime 4 player?

The only videos that require QuickTime are the videos from the
NT4 MCSE package. The on-screen demonstration vi deos that
are included in the NT4 MCSE package do not require QuickTime,
those videos play without an external viewer.

the proper audio confi guration:

Open Control Panel

Open the QuickTime Applet
