Note: If you look to your left as you leave the Police Station you will spot a red
fire truck. Driving the fire truck to your next location will sometimes cause Earle
to tell a story about a woman who repeatedly set her apartment on fire to get
the attention of the fire dept and police dept.

Head to Juan Garcia Cruz's house and you will have a gunfight.
Shoot the man in the left window then go to the left into the neighbor's driveway
and go around the back and over the fence, go inside the house shoot the
second guy for the Forcible Rear Entry achievement/trophy.

1. Inspect the man in front of you, and in left pocket is a silver dollar.
2. In his right pocket is his wallet/I.D.
3. Look at boxes left of body and find the notepad with "Masangkay" written
on it.
4. In the room to the right, look at the stacked boxes labeled "Parnell's Soup
Co."
5. Go to the room at the back for a newspaper (no headline) which has an
advertisement for Parnell's Soup Co.
6. Head out the back and straight to the shed. On the wall to the left is a
bunch of cans. Look at the middle group and select the flour can that's
second to the left to open a secret door.
7. Use the can opener to open the cans of soup containing marijuana buds.
Open both cans for the Soup in the Pot achievement/trophy.
8. Then go to the back of the stash room to find a ledger. Look for and
highlight 'E.J.'

Note: If you pick up and inspect the can to the right of the can that triggers the
secret door, a jack in the box will pop out and Earle will make a comment about
"Phelps jumping like a little girl", though this may be Earle attempting to cover
for doing the same thing, judging by his facial expression.

To get the High Flyer achievement/trophy, you must go directly to 20th Century
Market (address is found on a newspaper in the house) but doing so will prevent
you from getting five stars rating as you'll miss a clue (Sergio's silver dollar, at
the beginning of his interview). However if you quit right after unlocking the
achievement/trophy, on resuming you will start back at Cruz's house.

Follow the front desk lady, Betty Williams, up the stairs and into Mr. Parnell's
room.
Open the ledger and select Jorge Garcia Cruz, 1452 N. Las Palmas Avenue.

Chase the clerk, you should be able to tackle him easily. Then examine some
reefer in his possession. Also inspect another Silver Dollar and his identification.

Note: If you don't tackle the clerk, you will eventually have a fist fight with him.

Big shootout here, be prepared. Recommended to get the Chicago Piano out of
your trunk, or the shotgun if you didn't download the Chicago Piano Gun (it's
free). Also if unlocked wear the Hawkshaw outfit for more health.

Phelps and Earle will start out in an alley near the factory. They will talk briefly
about the large amount of dope coming into the country. Roy then notices a truck

moving in, delivering the usual amount of dope in. The driver and another person
move to the back to unload the boxes. Roy tells Cole to wait for them to finish.
After a few seconds, Cole will ask if they're good. Roy says yes. Cole starts the
car and flashes his headlights a couple of times. Suddenly, three Patrol cars and
a prisoner transport truck come down the alleyway, knocking boxes around with
sirens blazing.

Quickly drive out of the alleyway and follow the Patrol cars to the front doors. Get
out, grab the gun in your trunk if you want, and quickly move into the factory.
Run into the interior of the processing plant. Large amounts of Parnell's Soup Co.
employees will have weapons, so quickly start targeting the nearby ones and
shoot them down. Quickly run and take out any others. Make sure to use a lot of
cover and to let your backup take out any if your taking a lot of damage.
Remember to grab more guns from the ground if you run out of ammo for your
Chicago Piano Gun or your shotgun.
After the shootout, the officers will shut down the factory and the shootout will
end.

Clues
The press will drive in. Meanwhile, Officer Glen Wheeler will tell Phelps they have
something for you to see. Follow him to a small room nearby.
1. Look at the boxed Reefer shipment near the room.
2. Go into the room and look at the body. Left hand is another silver dollar.
Left breast pocket is his wallet.
3. Leave the room and go up the stairs to the upper part of the factory and
follow the path until you find another cop watching over a corpse. Inspect
the body the cop takes you to. Left breast pocket for a silver dollar. Left
hand for a roll of money.

After this, the coroner and Ray Pinker will arrive. Phelps will tell him that this
whole incident was just like any other marijuana joint, then asks where did the
roll of money go, to which Roy states that he got it for "safekeeping." Pinker will
then tell Phelps he has something to show you. He has all the silver coins you've
been collecting on a table.

Look at the silver dollars. Arrange them like this:

1. The last coin to the right goes in the empty spot to the left.
2. Move the third coin from the left to the last spot on the right.
3. Move the first coin from the left to the empty stop in the middle.
4. It should spell: (MAS) (ANG) (KAY) (MET) (ALS)
Completing this puzzle unlocks Spare A Dime achievement/trophy .

Masangkay Metals
If you go north from the locked gate and around the corner, there is a gap in the
barbed wire at the top of the wall that allows you to jump over the wall.

Alternative Entrance: When you arrive at Masangkay Metals you find the
building locked up tight. The property has a wall all around with no way in. You
must go around to the back of the building using the alley way off Romaine Ave.
You must climb up the drain pipe of the building next to and to the south of
Masangkay Metals. Climb down the drain pipe on the north side of the roof. You
then head to the back entrance.
Upon entering, be ready for a gunfight, again. To make it easier, you can run
straight in and start shooting the people at the table. Next, you work your way
up the stairs to find the boss, Victor Sanders. The case then ends as another
crooked case.

NICHOLSON ELECTROPLATING
The case begins with Phelps and Biggs discussing the whereabouts of Jack Kelso,
currently the subject of a State-wide APB (no mention is made of Elsa Lichtmann
and her kidnapping nor of the death of Harlan Fontaine as this case begins
during A Polite Invitation presumably after Cole has visited Jack's office but
before the shootout at Monroe's house.). Suddenly a huge explosion, complete
with mushroom cloud, occurs a few blocks away. Biggs at first thinks the Soviets
have launched an H-bomb at Los Angeles.

Drive to the direction where the explosion came from; you can see smoke rising
to the sky. Be careful not to run over panicking pedestrians or get hit by speeding
cars. (Also note the unusually chaotic transmissions from KGPL; for a few
moments it almost appears as if Biggs is right.) After arriving two armed looters
will welcome your arrival. Chase them and gun them down.

You then arrive at the remains of an industrial plant for Nicholson Electroplating.
Walk through the entrance and look up to your right to see a water tower
collapsing (this is background action, not a cutscene). Approaching Ray Pinker
triggers a cutscene explaining the scenario, in particular the fact it was not a
nuclear explosion, obviously, but some form of major industrial accident. Biggs
and Phelps are ordered to scour the area for clues.

Crime Scene
This is a very large crime scene. Begin by following the path of destruction past
the mayor, who can be seen giving an interview to a TV news crew.
1. Airplane Part: You will come across a fork in the rubble past the mayor.
Turn to the right and a uniformed officer will call you over saying he thinks
that he's found something. Phelps will pick up one half of the part and try
to match it with the second half, successfully match up the letters to get
the clue and unlock the The Nose Knows achievement/trophy.
2. Laundry Tag: doubling back to the fork in the debris, continue straight and
almost immediately you will be alerted to a clue which happens to be a
piece of ripped shirt with a laundry tag. Note: if you hang around the area
for a while and still don't see the clue, your partner, Herschel Biggs, will
call you over.
3. Past the piece of shirt with a laundry tag, you will be called on by an
officer to look at a burned locker containing an intact briefcase. Phelps will
open the briefcase and four clues will be present:
1. Spy Camera which indicates espionage
2. Ornate golden ball or earring
3. Business card with the name Tomoko Okamoto
4. Undeciphered message and decoder apparatus. To decipher the
message, you must first align the cipher rings by aligning the H in
the outer ring with the K in the inner ring. Then turn the outer ring
to the letters in the message. The first letter in the message, K, will
decipher as N, keep rotating the outer ring to the remaining letters;
KSBOJLKQ XSB. Correct letters will appear in the top left of the
screen. The Clue reads "133 N. Vermont Ave".

Head back towards your vehicle and you will encounter Fred Nicholson, owner of
Nicholson Electroplating.

After the interview drive your vehicle out of the disaster zone; you should find a
gamewell around the corner. Make a call to the operator, and Phelps requests
information regarding the piece of airplane equipment that you found as well as
the address for Superior Laundry Services.

You can choose to either first drive to Okamoto's apartment, which is the
deciphered address, or to the laundry service; it doesn't matter in which order
you do this.

Once you arrive you will notice that the apartment's door is open and someone
has turned the place upside down.
1. Ring, Watch And POI: open the refrigerator and a dead body falls out.
Inspect both hands to find the ring and watch. Also you will need to tilt the

will be another golden ball, when attached (automatically) to the one you
found at the crime scene, you get the microfilm.

Once you have inspected all clues and the music cue sounds, you'll receive the
Skeletons in the Icebox achievement/trophy.

At this point Biggs will automatically call in to the station to report your findings.
If you have already been to Superior Laundry Services, Phelps can then use the
phone to also call in (see below).

Superior Laundry Services

Go to Superior Laundry in Melrose. View the customer log listing laundry tag
information. Herschel Biggs will remind you that the number on the tag you
found was J2620. Tap on said number for new person of interest, Oscar
Hangstrom. A dead end.

Use the phone near the front door of the shop. If you have already been to the
apartment, Dispatch puts you through to Ray Pinker who discovers the part is a
prop spinner and that Hughes Aircraft's Spruce Goose runs eight Wasp R-4360's.
You also ask the operator for information regarding Oscar Hangstrom but there is
no information regarding such person. (Note, if you go to the apartment second,
you will only ask about Hangstrom at this point and will call in about the airplane
part at the apartment.)

After visiting both locations, it is time to go find out more about the airplane part;
go to the new address: Hughes Aircraft.

Hughes Aircraft
You arrive to what appears to be a huge airplane hangar but the MP will stop you
at the front gate. Apparently you don't have the clearance to get inside, but
luckily your partner is friends with Vernon Mapes, a retired cop and now head of
security for Howard Hughes, who conveniently arrives a few moments later.
Follow him to the large hangar to find the H-4 Hercules (nicknamed the Spruce
Goose). After the pleasantries you get to interrogate Mapes.

After the interrogation you get to look around. Even the inside of the airplane.

Evidence
1. Linseed Oil: at the nose of the plane are 3 barrels of Linseed Oil which is
used to coat the inside of the prop spinners to prevent oxidization (as the
mechanic tells you later)
2. Navigation Note: climb up the ladder inside the plane, and turn right its on
a pinboard
3. Bahamas: turn around and on the right side you will see a navigation
machine, input 7600 longitude, 2415 latitude
4. Prop Spinner: you will find the mechanic on the outside, rear end of the
plane. There will be a bay of three engines, and he is tending to one. This
will trigger a cutscene and an inside look at the prop spinner of one of the
engines.
5. Photograph/ Unknown Location: head up into Mapes' Office, above the
hangar exit, it's on a desk across from the door (2 pictures, one of
singer/actress Marie 'The Body' McDonald, the other of Mapes and Marie at
an 'Unknown Location'
Wilshire Police Department
Now head back to the police station. Go downstairs to Tech Services and talk to
Ray Pinker. Investigate the photos from the spy camera carefully. After this, Ray
will ask you to help in an experiment. After this bit of excitement is over check
the other side of the desk where the earlier photos were placed to examine the
microfilm image to get a clue Aluminum Polishing Patent. This is the microfilm
found in Tomoko's apartment and is the patent for the aluminum polishing
process. This is needed in order to collect all clues and a 5 star case rating - it is
easy to overlook because a) the usual "clue music" does not play during this
sequence and b) the game inserts a distraction between examining one set of

images and then the microfilm. Upon completion, head to the location discovered
in the photos.

House in Photograph
Head to the house via car. Upon entering the house, you will discover gas cans
littering the floor. On the table across from the bed, you will discover an airline
ticket and passport. The passport belongs to Oscar Hangstrom but the picture is
actually of Harold McLellan, they are one and the same. Upon investigating the
passport fully, Mapes will set the house on fire. Shoot the gas tank next to the
stove to get out alive.

Climax
Chase Mapes back to the hangar. Along the way, you will have to avoid or take
down MPs. If you successfully chase Mapes all the way back to the hangar on
your first attempt, you will get the Out of the Frying Pan achievement/trophy. If
you fail the case during the chase segment at all, you can dashboard (XBOX 360)
and load the game from the last save, if you are in the screen where it says
"Case Failed - You Lost Mapes" and you can still get the achievement after
loading. To get the Bulletproof Windshield achievement/trophy, you will have to
kill the drivers of the two incoming MP cars before they pull up. Upon getting to
the hangar, you will initiate a shootout. After you kill all enemies, the case will be
closed.
