OAK STEAMED

Ethnicraft introduces STEAMED OAK for the OAK BURN collection.

Steaming oak results in a warm, dark brown look & feel. The colour runs throughout the thickness of the wood
and remains, even after sanding.
The steaming process heats the wood over 100 C temperatures between 4 to 8 days depending on the wood
thickness and the colour required. Its the most natural method to replace chemical or water-based staining.
Steaming the wood also reduces the mechanical characteristics of oak. The wood shrinks and extends less
after steaming, eventually enabling more complicated designs with a stable material.

The Oak wood used for the Ethnicraft Steamed collection is sourced from well managed forests in Europe. In order to obtain the best protection

Wood has always been the core material in the Ethnicraft collection. Therefore it is our moral obligation to think about
we use in the entire production and distribution process, to the treatment of the products and reduction of waste.
THE ORIGIN OF OUR CORE MATERIAL
matter how much we use, we can always replace it. We can go on growing as much wood as we like, for as long as
we like. If we use more wood and grow more wood, our whole life will be more sustainable, our environment will be
cleaner and our future will be more secure.
Ethnicrafts teak wood comes from two main sources. On the one hand, it is carefully reclaimed timber extracted
Indonesia. On the other hand, Ethnicraft works closely together with the Indonesian government body in charge of
managing the teak plantations originally set up by the Dutch about 150 years ago. This government agency applies
strict policies with regard to annual replanting, as well as to the size and quantity of trees felled each year.
For oak and walnut, our partner factories work with French and Serbian oak as well as with American black walnut
that originates from well-managed forests in Europe and the USA.
