What does the research say about advantages and disadvantages of distance
education?
1. LITERATURE REVIEW:
What does the literature/research say about this issue/topic? By using NAU
Library or Online Search engines, conduct a literature review.

You need to include 5 different sources (book, journal article, web article
etc.) in your review. Try to use current sources as much as possible.

You need to summarize and synthesize your sources by discussing a


common theme or issue.

You don't need to critique your sources

You don't need to evaluate your sources (if the sources are trustworthy,
weather the author has a bias or not)

You need to provide background information such as history and

Brief Literature Review:


I think everyone believes distance education has a lot of advantages. On the
other side it has some disadvantages we can talk about. The research is about
effects of distance education of two different courses, Turkish Language and
Turkish Revolution-Ataturks Principles and History on students from different
countries enrolled at Hitit University in Spring semester in 2014-2015 educational
academic year.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Distance Education (Kaya, 2002).
Advantages:
- It is providing different educational methods for students.
- It is minimizing the opportunity gap between students.
- It is making it easier education system.
- It is describing criterias in educational system.
- It is increasing quality of education.
- It decreasing expenses of education.
- It is providing independent learning chance for students.
- It is furnishing students with helpful learning environments.
- It is not forcing students to spend all their education time in a room
for students.
- It is helping learner to study at their own pace.

It is supporting students to learn freely.


It is putting more responsibilities on students.
It is providing information from previous sources.
It is letting many students to come together with people of
education.
- It is ensuring learning deeply for students.
- It is supplying both education system at the same time.
- It is removing time limitations and restrictions for all learners in any
level.
Disadvantages:
- It is not one to one communication chance.
- It is stopping leaners' social interaction.
- It is not providing enough support for students doesnt have selfstudying discipline
- It is taking peoples time.
- It is not getting adequate supports from online courses.
- It is not effective way of learning.
- It is required to have internet and some other tools needed for the
courses.
Traditional education and distance education is supposed to be compared in terms of
education opportunities. The advantages mentioned are when all the functions of the
distance education is at optimum. Time flexibility and cooperation both are given as most
important part of distance education.
2. REFLECTION:

What is your personal opinion on this issue? Do you agree with the
research? If you agree or disagree, please explain why?
Provide examples/experiences regarding this issue from school
perspective or If you are not working in a school, from your profession. Be
specific with your examples. You can mention software/hardware names,
specific methods that you plan to use, etc.
How would you implement this research in your career? (At least 1

Reflection:
I think distance education has more advantages than disadvantages. I
strongly agree with this research. Research also states that distance
education has more advantages than disadvantages

Distance education is giving equal educational opportunities for everybody.


For instance learners with problems, mentally or physically, are able to take
their education at their place wherever they want. They wont have to go
somewhere specific. Also it gives a chance for students who cannot pay
tuitions to their education, can have a work as well.

I also think that distance education can be more valuable in the future with this
