REFLECTION- DAY 6
Having ended day 5 on such a high, I was revelling with
enthusiasm to find out what day 6 had in store. I was aware of the
power of differentiated instruction, a thematic approach to
teaching language and literature, integrating STEM and STEAM
and I had gained some insight at to the 5E lesson planning model.
With regards to the 5 E model, will I ensure that there is evidence
of engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration and
evaluation or was evidence of each to be presented throughout? I
had heard talks of the 4Cs on day 5 however I was not clear as to
what these Cs were and how they would impact planning,
teaching and learning. Going into the sessions, I was hoping that
these questions would be answered and that I would have the
opportunity to write a lesson plan using all that I have been
exposed to.
Apparently, I was not the only person, who was unclear as to how
exactly would the 5Es be included in the lesson plan. What was
amazing to note was how we had already been incorporating
these aspects in our lesson plans but were unaware of it. Ms.
Shakes, one of our presenters, was keen in pointing this out to us.
She also clarified for us that they should be kept linear however,
they should be kept throughout the lesson and not just at
particular sections.
The 4Cs were also dealt with during this session. Communication,
collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. Not new terms as we
have been fostering communication through our discussions with
the students and amongst the students themselves, collaboration
through group work and whole group activities, creativity through
the activities was assigned to students and in our presentation of
lessons and critical thinking through the questions posed in
activities and discussions.
Ms. Shakes noted that we should Provide an opportunity for our
students to taste success. Which is exactly what the integration
will do. She also reiterated that the NSC lesson pan should be
differentiated, balanced and take a thematic approach.
