Dear Mr. Gilmore:
I am interested in applying for the Head Teacher position in the First Program.
I believe that I am a uniquely qualified candidate for this opening. I am a
dedicated and passionate teacher and am committed to ensuring best
practices through continuing education and professional development.
I began teaching as an undergraduate at the University of New Mexico. I
worked from August 1999 thru May 2002 as a teacher in the Wrinkle Writing
Program. I visited local elementary schools and taught playwriting curriculum
to the students. Throughout the course of the school year, I would engage the
students in exercises and activities to stimulate creative and imaginative play
that would lead to storytelling and, ultimately, the composition and
performance of an original play. Additionally, while studying at UNM and
teaching Wrinkle Writing, I worked as a substitute teacher at a Montessori
preschool.
In 2014, I was hired as a teaching assistant at Manzano Day School. During
my time at Manzano Day School, I have learned a great deal about classroom
management and have had many exciting professional development
opportunities. Based on my positive experiences at Manzano and a desire to
contribute in a meaningful way to my community, I decided to return to
school to finish my bachelors degree. I completed my bachelors in Liberal
Arts and then applied and was accept to graduate school at New Mexico State
University.
As an educator, I am inspired by the opportunity to have a lasting impact on
the lives of my students and their families. I am deeply invested in the
success of every child that comes through my classroom. I am constantly
seeking ways to extend learning beyond the classroom. I have been
developing service learning projects for my students so that they can deeply
develop the core values of Manzano Day School (respect, integrity, striving
for excellence, responsibility). My class and I have been working at the
Roadrunner Food Bank and Cuidando Los Ninos. Through these projects, the
students are learning to take pride in hard work and giving back to the
community.
I am thrilled to be submitting my resume for this position at The Dalton
School. I am impressed with The Dalton Schools continued commitment to
excellence in education. I think that I could be an asset to the school,

students, and families of Dalton. Please let me know if I can provide any
