Title: Technical Operations Intern
Overview:
Interns are expected to spend time learning multiple facets of production work and participate in
departmental projects which support the station. Ultimately they are expected to assist in running
camera and prompter as needed and scheduled but optimize the opportunity to understand directing,
master control, live shot setup and audio and participate in off air production. By the end of this
internship, the student will be able to obtain a real world working knowledge of news broadcast
production and support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific duties include, but may not be limited to:
Operation of studio cameras, audio control consoles, prompter, switcher, and other television
related equipment
Be able to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment during live productions
Work closely with newscast producers, production crew, and talent
Shadow different positions and roles of those in the Technical Services Department
Develop skills and understanding for directing a newscast and other productions through
training and hands-on experience
Assist or work with master control when necessary, learning the different skills involved with
this role
Evaluation:
Work performance will be evaluated each day informally but if required can be formally
evaluated
Qualifications:
An interest in broadcast media
Strong attention to detail
Prefer experience in television production but is not required
Very task-oriented, self-starter, team-player
Excellent verbal communication skills
Ability to rapidly respond properly to issues that unexpectedly arise on-air when necessary
Additional Information:
This role will be located at WGAL in Lancaster, PA and will run from May 16th August 1st
