Initial Phase
Instructional
Activating Prior Knowledge
Strategies/Learning !
We have been studying characteristics of pop art for the past week. We
Tasks (procedures)
are going to continue our journey of Pop Art by studying one of the most famous

pop artists, Andy Warhol. Does anyone know of Andy Warhol? What about the
artworks he has created?
We also have been using Illustrator for the past week, how is everyone feeling
about Illustrator? Do you feel more comfortable with the tools? By the way,
what are the basic tools of Illustrator again?
!
The teacher focuses on the color schemes of Warhols artwork.

Guided Instruction/Demonstration
Day One: Intro, Illustrator Review, Begin Project
!
Show the Prezi Presentation of Andy Warhol and his artwork. Using
Analyzing an Image poster and the elements and principles of design, have
students describe what they see in the artworks. Students have a visual handout
provided for important information on the formal elements of the artwork that
they write next to each artwork being discussed.
!
Today, we are going to study the artworks Andy Warhol. What do you
notice about these artworks? Does anyone recognize these objects/people?
Who are these people? What are the objects? Most importantly, what is the
artist trying to convey?
!
Use the Ping Pong Discussion method to create a discussion on formal
qualities of Andy Warhols artworks.
!
For the project, you will create an object that will be repeated a total of
four times on Illustrator using a specific color scheme using the color wheel as a
reference. Pick an object or person that is we are constantly surrounded by.
!
Along with the color scheme, we will first draw your objects of choice
using a pencil and paper. While they draw, they will choose three (3) tones of
their object (shadow, mid-tone, highlight) and block those tones in your drawing.

Just like what we did in our last project, we will scan our pictures into the
computer and place them into our workspace. Does anyone remember how to
place a picture into the workspace?

Middle Phase
Days 2-5: Review of Andy Warhols process
!
Review visual characteristics and color schemes of Andy Warhol along
with the tools in Illustrator
!
Students begin their repetitive color scheme artwork using Illustrator
!
Teacher circulates room to assist with handling the technology tools
!
When students finish their artwork, they print out their final piece on
high quality printing paper.

Independent Practice
!
Now we will begin our repetitive objects inspired by Andy Warhol.
Remember, first were drawing, scanning, and placing the artwork into the
workspace. After you placed the picture, trace your three tones using a different
layer for each tone. How would you incorporate your color scheme into
shadows, mid-tones, and highlights? Can you draw an example of an object on
the board using your color scheme?
!
After the teacher reviewed parameters of the project, the teacher shows
an example of the final product for students are visual learners.
!
Teacher circulates the room to assist students that need assistance.

Concluding Phase/Collaborative Learning
At the end of the 5th class, students put their works on the corkboard wall and sit
in their seats facing the wall in a semi circle to have a short Ping Pong Critique
(similar to Ping Pong Discussion).

Clean Up Process & Procedures
At the end of each class, the teacher will remind students save their work and
log off their computers.

Follow-up (includes enrichment/extension activities)

Differentiated Instruction (corresponds to students identified in prior Task)
!
Students with and IEP or ELL students receive extra support. The art
teacher will review the discussion questions with support teachers. Discussion
questions may be truncated based on each childs level.
!
Students are given verbal and visual instructions for the project.
!
Special needs children will be given the preparation ahead of time and to
be reviewed with the special education teacher.
!
Blind students will have an audio recording of any written resources. The
art teacher or teachers aide will scribe for the student. The student will be
seated at a computer close to the art teacher.
