Book Report Project Options

INSTRUCTIONS
Choose one of these ideas as your book report project. Basic instruc7ons are given. Use these basic
instruc7ons as your star7ng point. Use your own crea7vity to complete your project. You are free to
add your own ideas to the basic instruc7ons, but be sure to do all parts of the basic instruc7ons or you
will lose points from your grade. You will use this list of project op7ons three 7mes during the school
year. You may do a certain op7on only one 7me during the year.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Write a script of an interview with the author of your book. When you present your report to the class,
you will read the part of the author and a classmate will read the part of the interviewer. In your script,
the interviewer should ask ten ques7ons to the author about the characters, plot, and the authors
favorite parts of the book. Write the authors answers based on what you think the author would really
say. Prac7ce your performance before you present it. If you type your script, it must be at least one
side of a page, double-spaced, size 12 font. If you write your script by hand, it must ll at least two sides
of a piece of notebook paper, skip a line. Your nal draJ should be edited and neat.

PUPPET SHOW
Present a puppet show of the plot of your book or a scene from your book. You must write a script to
retell the scene (you may not just reread the scene from the book). If you type your puppet show
script, it must be at least one side of a page, double-spaced, size 12 font. If you write your script by
hand, it must ll at least two sides of a piece of notebook paper, skip a line. Your nal draJ should be
edited and neat. You may use store-bought puppets or handmade puppets. You may use a stage of
some kind, or do the puppet show without a stage. You may use props and backdrops if you wish.

DIORAMA
Make a miniature scene from your book inside a shoebox. Use construc7on paper, clay, objects from
nature, small toys, and so on. Be crea7ve! AQach a small piece of paper to your diorama that states
your name, the 7tle of the book, the author, and a sentence or two about the scene.

GAME
Make a board game using characters and events from your book as the paths, loca7ons, cards, or game
pieces. Follow some of the same rules of other board games that you know. Be sure your game board
includes the 7tle of the book and typed or handwriQen instruc7ons for how to play. Your nal draJ
should be edited and neat. You will teach your classmates how to play the game in class.

COMIC STRIP
Draw a 10-15 frame comic strip retelling the story of your book. You may use cap7ons or speech
bubbles to relate your story. Be sure to include the 7tle of the book on your paper. Do this on the
computer if you have the right soJware! Do a rough draJ rst. Your nal draJ should be edited and
neat.

TV COMMERCIAL
Present a television commercial in which you try to sell your book to your audience. Your commercial
should include the 7tle and author of the book, as well as catchy informa7on about the plot of the
book. Use suspense or some of the same adver7sing tricks used on real TV. You may perform your
commercial live in front of the class, or you may record it with your iPad, and well play it in the
classroom.

TECH PROJECT
Use your iPad or a computer to create a tech project about your book. You may use any of the Google
apps from your school account (Google Draw, Google Slides), Power Point, Prezi, Pic Collage, or other
apps. Your project should explain at least ten things from your book. Be sure to spell, capitalize, and
punctuate correctly. Use pictures and words to retell your story.

PERFORM A SCENE
Perform a scene from your book. Write a script of the scene. Include two or more characters and a
narrator, if necessary. You may ask classmates to be characters in the scene. You may read from the
script or you may memorize your lines. Prac7ce together at home, during study hall, or during a recess. If
you would like to use costumes and props, that is ne, but it is not necessary. Be sure to have a short
introduc7on to the scene telling necessary informa7on so your audience will understand what the scene
is about. Your performance should last at least two minutes. If you type your script, it must be at least
one side of a page, double-spaced, size 12 font. If you write your script by hand, it must ll at least two
sides of a piece of notebook paper, skip a line. Your nal draJ should be edited and neat. You must hand
in your script.

CHILDRENS BOOK
Write and illustrate a 7-10 page picture book retelling the main events of your book. The wri7ng must be
short paragraphs about each picture or event. You must have an illustra7on on each page. Include a front
and a back cover. Be sure to do a rough draJ of the wriQen story and edit it with an adult to make sure it
has correct spelling, capitaliza7on, and punctua7on. This may be typed or handwriQen. Your nal draJ
should be edited and neat.

NEWSPAPER ARTICLE
Write a newspaper story to tell about an event from your book. Be sure to tell who, what, when, where,
and how the event happens. Write a catchy headline at the beginning of the ar7cle. If you type your
ar7cle, it must be at least one side of a page, double-spaced, size 12 font. If you write your script by hand,
it must ll at least two sides of a piece of notebook paper, skip a line. Your nal draJ should be edited
and neat.

BOOK IN A BAG
Collect ve objects from around your home that have something to do with your book. On a piece of
paper, write two to three sentences about each object explaining how the objects were a part of the plot.
Put the objects and sentences in a bag and bring them to school. You will show your objects and read
your sentences to the class. The nal draJs of your sentences should be edited and neat.

JOURNAL
Imagine that you are the main character in your book. Write ve journal entries about ve events that
happen to you. Also write two journal entries about other characters in the book telling how you know
them or what you think of them. That is a total of seven journal entries. Each entry must be seven or
more sentences long. You may type or hand write your journal entries. Your nal draJ should be edited
and neat.

TEST
Write a Jeen-ques7on test about your book. You must have groups of dierent types of ques7ons, like
true/false, mul7ple choice, short answer, ll in the blank, matching, essay, etc. You must also write an
answer key for your test. Your nal draJ should be edited and neat.

POSTER
Design a poster that shows an important or interes7ng scene from your book. Use crayons, markers,
paint, or colored pencils to decorate your poster. On your poster be sure to write the 7tle and author of
the book, as well as a cap7on telling what is happening in your scene.
