What are a Standard Toilet Cubicle Dimensions?
There are no set standard sizes and dimensions for toilet cubicles, only minimum measurements to
allow for user comfort. If a cubicle is too small people will struggle to comfortably enter, manoeuvre
and seat themselves, particularly while carrying baggage and other personal items. Particular care
should be given to cubicle door sizes, allowing sufficient space for a door to swing open and miss the
toilet pan.
By way of guidance we suggest allowing at least 800-900mm widths and depths of at least 1500mm
from front to back. This should allow for a 450mm manoeuvring space within the cubicle. Please see
diagram below:
Where a washroom has 4 or more toilet cubicles there is a requirement that one of these should be
configured as an enlarged cubicle, which includes an outward opening door and grab rails. The
suggested sizes of an enlarged cubicle are 1200mm width and 1500mm depth.
If a wheelchair accessible toilet cubicle is provided it should meet the following minimum dimensions
under Document M of the Building Regulations:
Depth 2200mm
Width 1500mm
Door Opening 900mm
Vanity Unit Dimensions
The following are suggested minimum sizes for a vanity unit in order to accommodate inset wash
hand basins:
Standard Vanity Unit 600mm depth
Semi-Recessed Vanity Unit 350mm depth
