You are a DRAGON!
Of course, like any respectable Dragon you must find yourself a beautiful Princess and horde
more treasure than anyone could possibly need. Lucky for you, there are nearby castles that
are just ripe for the plunder. On the way there, you may as well burn some villages to strike fear
into the hearts of the villagers and cement your name in the pages of history.
However, you're not the only Dragon out there
Winning the Game
Be the dragon with the most glory points at the end of the game.
Components
9 Village Cards
14 Castle Cards
91 Main Deck Cards
75 Fire tokens (5 colors)
Game Setup for 3 or more players
1. Separate the cards into Villages,
Castles and Main Deck. Place the
Green Banners back in the box, you will
not use them this game.
2. If there are less than 5 players, remove
the cards in the main deck with a small
V in the bottom right corner of the
card. There should be a total of 18
cards removed in this manner.
3. Take one of the double-sided field
cards from the Village deck and place it
on the table. Shuffle the remaining
village cards and deal them, villageside up around the center field card to
create a 3 x 3 grid of villages similar to
the graphic.
4. Separate the red and blue
Castle/Banner cards. Starting with the
largest numbered castle in descending
order, remove Castle/Banner cards from each color until you have a number of castles in
each color equal to the number of players in the game plus one. Put any Castle/Banner
cards which you removed back in the box, you will not use them this game.
5. Randomly deal each player a red Castle/Banner card, with the Banner side face up,
setting aside the remaining red Castle/Banner card which will be used later.
6. Lay all of the blue Castle/Banner cards with the Castle side face up in order and in reach
of all players.
7. Give each player a set of 15 Fire tokens of one color.
8. Shuffle the Main Deck and deal 3 cards to each player, face down.
Game Setup for 2 players
1. Separate the cards into Villages, Castles and Main Deck. Place the Red Castle/Banner
cards back in the box, you will not use them this game.
2. Remove the cards in the main deck with a small V in the bottom right corner of the card
in addition to a small II in the bottom left corner of the card. There should be a total of
18 cards removed in this manner.
3. Remove all the villages of Ashton and Kindleton along with one of the double-sided field
cards. Shuffle the remaining village cards and deal them, village-side up into a 2 x 3 grid
of villages.
4. Randomly give a green Banner to each player.
5. Lay out the 1, 2, and 3 blue Castle/Banner cards with the Castle side up in order and in
reach of both players.
6. Give each player a set of 15 Fire tokens of one color.
7. Shuffle the Main Deck and deal 4 cards to each player, face down.
Game Play
The castles in the middle of the table are the locations which will be attacked and looted by
each dragon. Players are going to be playing cards from their hands into the castles and the
maximum number of cards that may be placed on a castle is indicated by the number in the fan
of cards icon.
The banner cards that are in front of each player indicate a players turn order as well as informs
them of how they must play their cards into the castles that round. A white square indicates the
card must be played face-up, while a grey square indicates that the card must be face-down.
Cards must be played in the order that the squares appear on banner from left to right.
Players take turns, in order, placing a single card from their hand onto a castle card in the
center of the table. Players will continue playing cards, one at a time, until all cards have been
placed into the castles.
Now, using turn order, players will choose a castle that they wish to attack. To attack a castle, a
player must return their current banner card to the middle of the table, then choose a castle
card. That player takes that castle card, as well as all of the cards that were in it and places
them in front of him or her. These cards will be kept in an area referred to as their hoard. Any
face-down cards will be revealed, and any Dragonflame cards will need to be resolved
immediately before the next player attacks a castle. See Resolving Dragonflame, below.
[Footnote box - For a 2 player game, do not return the green Banners to the middle.
Instead whomever loots the smallest number castle receives the 1 green Banner in the
next round, and the looter of the largest number castle receives the 2 green Banner.]
Once all players have attacked a castle, discard the cards in the remaining castle that was not
attacked and set that castle card to the side. Flip over the banners which were returned to the
middle to show their corresponding Castle side and set them up for the next round. Remember
to include the castle card of the same color which was previously set aside.
All players should flip over the castle cards that they just attacked to show their banner side for
the next round. Deal all players another 3 cards to start the next round. Play will continue until
there is just one card remaining in the deck.
[Footnote box - For a 2 player game, deal each player 4 cards instead of 3.]
Resolving Dragonflame
Immediately after looting one or more Dragonflame cards from a castle, the player who looted
the cards will resolve each one individually. A Dragonflame card allows you to place a number
of fire tokens equal to the number on the card into any available village space(s). You may only
place one fire token per village, and the fire tokens must be placed in a straight line horizontally
or vertically. When placing a fire token onto a village, you must place the token in the smallest
numbered spot that is available. After placing the fire tokens, the Dragonflame card is then
discarded. If a Dragonflame path would cause you to drop a fire token on a village which has all
spaces filled, or onto a field, do not place a fire token there. Once you are out of fire tokens,
you may not burn any more villages.
Relics
Relics are magical items which are not worth any points at the end of the game, but will allow
the players to do things they would not otherwise be able to do. Relics are kept in the hoard of
the dragon that looted them, and are able to be used as indicated on the card. If a relic says At
the end of the game these are resolved in standard turn order, based on banners that you
collected in the final round of the game.
Treasures
Treasures are noted by the sub-text of Treasure on the card and are worth points at the end of
the game.
Scoring
Villages
Each village has a number of spaces that can be filled with Dragonflame. At the end of
the game, if all of the spaces on a village card have been filled, the village has been
successfully destroyed and all participating dragons will earn glory based on who did the
most damage. In the case of a tie, the dragon who burned the village first will break the
tie. Any villages which do not have all of their spaces filled were not successfully
destroyed and will not score at the end of the game.
Banners
The banner that you have at the end of the game scores points equal to the number on
the banner.
Statues
Statues in your hoard are worth five points at the end of the game. However, if you have
two or more statues of the same type in your hoard at the end of the game, you dont
score any points for those statues.
Chests
Each chest will score a number of points equal to the number of chests with the same
name that you have at the end of the game. (ie - if you have four Stash of Silver Pieces
cards in your hoard at the end of the game, each Stash of Silver Pieces card will be
worth four points.) You will only score positive points for one set of chests at the end of
the game. All other chest cards you have in your hoard will be worth negative one point
each.
Jewelry
Jewelry will score a number of points equal to the number on the card at the end of the
game.
Princess
The Princess will score one point for each unique named treasure you have in your
hoard at the end of the game. This includes the total of unique names of chests, statues
and jewelry. The Princess is unique, and as such you may only have one in your hoard
at the end of the game. If you loot a second Princess, place it into the discard pile.
Knights
Knights will score negative three points per Knight in your hoard at the end of the game
as negative points at the end of the game.
Curses
The Curse will score negative two points for each unique named treasure chest you
have in your hoard at the end of the game. The Curse is unique, and as such you may
only have one in your hoard at the end of the game. If you loot a second Curse, place it
into the discard pile.
