INTRODUCTION
(GINTONG PAMANA)
Philippines is a rich country. Definitely. The richness of our country is exhibited in
our history. In the journal of Antonio Pigafetta, the recorder of all Magellans expeditition,
he described the Philippines is an island where one coud just comb the dirt lightly and
find gold the size of walnuts and eggs.
GINTONG PAMANA is a documentary of ABS-CBN hosted by Miss Cheche Lazaro.
This exhibits mainly the SURIGAO TREASURES located in Magroyong, Surigao City.
Surigao treasures also known as Mang Bertos Collection. Mang Berto is a bulldozer
operator who accidentally dug those gold pieces when hes working on the site.
Dr. John Miksic, one of the expert interviewees, said that those golds , known as
Surigao Treasures is one of the most important and tangible heritage of the country.
Also, Dr.Baker, a curator, added that it is the largest collection of Philippine
archaelogical gold in the world.
As the documentary nearly comes to an end, Miss Lazaro gave Mang Berto a tour
in the Ayala Museum (where those treasures are now being exhibited) to identify the
golds hit by his bulldozer I cant tell what is contained in those eyes that have become
tired and dull. Regret? Most likely.
REACTION:
The documentary simply indicates that Philippines is a rich country pretending to be
poor. Surigao treasures symbolizes one big thing in our history and culture because of
golds and any other minerals which are great factors of our wealth. Those treasures
have their own story to tell but they prefer to exist in our land and thats why we should
protect and research more about Philippine resources. We know that in the
documentary we had watched, Mang Berto is too lucky to found those fancy golds but I
do believe it is the will of God why he let the hardworking bulldozer operator to be the
founder of such precious
things.
It has a positive outcome when ayala museum
decided to have an exhibit with the Surigao treasures and some historic relics it made it
preserve our rich
