SCENE 1
(Noisy peeps in a courtroom)
Bailiff
: All rise, the Honorable Judge Alex Salvio presiding.
(All stand) (Enter Judge)(Judge sits)(Everyone else sits)
Judge
: Calling into session case 374C-TWBE, the hearing for . (Lawyers + Lara go to their tables)
Defendant, please enter.
(Bailiff exits; re-enters with Denise; leads her to her table)
Judge
: Counsel, a word please. (Lawyers go to the )
Bailiff
: Do you solemnly swear or affirm that you will tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the
truth, so help you God?
Tina
: I swear. (hand is on top of a Bible)
Patrick
: So Ms. Lee, what happened when Ms. Apolinario took the money? Did you see it?
Tina
: Yes. She took the money in Lara's vault. She knew her password because we're friends.
Apparently, we're not because she's a thief!
Denise
: I'm not and you know that! You only say that because you don't want to lose your job, right?
Judge
: Order in the court! Counsel, please contain your client. Okay, proceed.
Patrick
: So Ms. Tina Lee, were you in the said place when that happened? What is your alibi?
Tina
: I was inside Lara's house. I was supposed to give her the key to the office because she left it. I
went up straight to her room to place it there then, I saw Denise getting Lara's money.
Patrick
: What was your reaction when you saw what was happening?
Tina
: I was shocked! I never knew she can do that.
Patrick
: But what did you do? Tina: I ran and called Lara.
Patrick
: Why didn't you called the police? I presume Ms. Apolinario here is unarmed because there are
no maids or anyone in that house.
Tina
: I was shocked! I didn't know what to do
Patrick
: Please direct your point.
Tina
: I was shocked!
Patrick
: But why didn't you call the police? You waited for 1 week? Why that long?
Tina
: I knew that I shouldn't call the police since I had no right to do so!
Patrick
: Why is that so? You are the witness! You witnessed the crime! Why didn't you called the police
afterwards!
Tina
: Because uhm...
Patrick
: No further questions, your honor.
Judge
: Okay, Counsel, proceed with your client on the witness stand. (Denise goes to the witness
stand)
Bailiff
: Do you solemnly swear or affirm that you will tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the
truth, so help you God?
Denise
: I swear.
Ms. Andres
: Ms. Apolinario, where were you on the 25th of September, 10:15 pm?
Denise
: I was working in a food chain.
Ms. Andres
: But according to Ms. Lee, she saw you in Ms. Tang's house at around 10:20? Denise: She was
lying. That's my shift.
Ms. Andres
: But according to the records of that food chain, you went out around 10:15 pm? Where were
you after that?
Denise
: I went home immediately.
Ms. Andres
: So soon? You didn't go to Lara's house? It's just near your workplace, right?
Denise
: No, I didn't.
Ms. Andres
: But according to the village's record, your name was written around 10:17 pm. So it means you
entered the village, but you said you went home immediately.
Denise
: That was the faster way home.
Ms. Andres
: In a village? There is no transportation in that village. You walked?
Denise
: Yes.
Ms. Andres
: Yet according to records, you went out at exactly 10:30? Isn't that enough time to get the
money out of the vault?
Denise
: I walked, right? Ms. Andres: But the entrance and exit of that village is only 1 Km long. You can
walk out of it by 5 minutes or so. Isn't 13 minutes so much?
Denise
: Yes, but... Ms. Andres: No further questions, your honor.
Judge
: Okay, this session will continue at exactly 10:30, after the recess break.
Judge
: Let this hearing commence. Okay, Ms. Andres, let's proceed with your client on the witness
stand. (Lara goes to the witness stand)
Bailiff
: Do you solemnly swear or affirm that you will tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the
truth, so help you God?
Lara
: I swear
Patrick
: So Ms. Tang, where were you when the crime happened?
Lara
: I was in a restaurant for a client meeting.
Patrick
: Did Ms. Lee call you around 10:20?
Lara
: Yes.
Patrick
: But according to you phone history, you didn't receive any phone calls between 10 and 11 pm
of September 25, 2015. Why is that so?
Lara
: I used my other phone.
Patrick
: But you don't have another phone.
Lara
: Oh sorry. Tina called me with the use of the landline.
Patrick
: But you were in a restaurant.
Lara
: We own that restaurant so I can use the landline anytime I want.
Patrick
: Yet according to the records of Tina's phone, she didn't called you or anyone on that night.
Lara
: (shouts) I don't care what you say! That freak stole my money! She stole a half a million! She's
a liar! Denise, don't be such a freak! Tell them the truth!
Steph
: (stands) Oh stop it Lara! I can't help it anymore! Don't lie! We both know that Denise didn't
steal your money! Tina placed that on her bag when they met! Just tell the truth!
Lara
: (shouts and stands) Shut up, Lisa! You know nothing
Steph
: I was there when you planned it, remember? I am so sick of you trying to blame Denise of the
crime that she didn't do! (Police tries to stop her)
: Can you stop! Ms. Faye!
: No. Let her. I want to listen.
Ms. Andres
Judge
Steph
: Remember what happened the day after that? You planned on betraying Denise just because
John loves her! The only person that you've loved since like forever! So you try to break them!
Oh Lara, I know you! You never leave your house unlocked.
Judge
: Is that true, Lara?
Lara
: No! Oh my gosh! Why would you listen to her? She's definitely a gold digger! She just wanted
to take my place on my company because she was next in line!
Audience 2
: Lisa is telling the truth and I have a video to prove it! (Shows the video of them planning)
Lara
: (Stuttering) Th-that do-doesn't pr-rove anything!
Audience 2
: This proves everything, you liar!
Lara
: No! Th-that's not even m-me in the vi-video, you're the f-fraud!
Judge
: Order in the court! Order in the court! It is perfectly clear that Ms. Tang is guilty.
(Denise shakes Patrick's hand)
Denise
: Lara, can we talk?
Lara
: Aren't we talking right now? (Rolls her eyes)
Denise
: You know what? I can forgive you even though you did this to me. I understand you! I never
thought that he loves me and I'm sorry for that. For hurting you and everything. I value our
friendship so much even though I'm poor and you're rich, you accepted me. And I thank you for
that. I want us to be friends again. I don't want to end our friendship with just a
misunderstanding. I know now, I can't forgive you but I know I can. Maybe someday but only
time will heal. Someday, if we're both ready, we can be friends again. And in that time, I know
we can be stronger. Our bond will be stronger. Someday. But until then, goodbye, Lara. (Denise
walks out) (Lara watches Denise walk out then cries) End.
