A winter storm watch is in effect for the Tri-State region late Wednesday night into Thursday, with heavy snow, strong winds, and near blizzard conditions expected. Snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour are possible, with visibilities down to a quarter mile at times and north winds gusting up to 35 mph along coastal areas. Snowfall amounts are uncertain but minimum forecasts call for at least 6 inches and maximum forecasts suggest up to 12 or more inches could fall in some areas.
