University-Arevalo watched a cultural show last February 13, 2017 about
Sugilanon: Bayluhay At first, I readied myself to sleep on my seat because I
thought that it would be boring. But as soon as it started, it captured my
attention because it wasnt your typical boring musical play. It captured the
interest of the audience because it was fun.
The whole crowd laughs whenever theres a funny scene and sing along
whenever the characters sing. The actors did a really great job on portraying
their characters. The way they act was natural. The actors were actually
funny so it didnt come out as forced. Aside from being able to act, other
characters were also good in singing and dancing. Their voices were good
and the songs they sing matched the concept of the play. The actors were
really skilled and talented. The props and costumes were also craftily made.
The golden salakot, and the very long pearl necklace called manangyad that
was given by the Malay settlers to the Aetas in exchange for the land was
also creatively made. After watching the show, I was able to learn the
different cultural tradition of our ancestors or of the aeta tribe. Their beliefs
were very fascinating, like for example, they believe in usug.
The show was able to depict the norms in the daily life of the slaves of the
Sultan, that they were treated like they were animals. Because of the unity of
the Malays, they were able to free themselves from the hands of their
tumultuous Sultan and they were able to set a life without fear on a new land.
After I watched the show I would like to watch a stage play depicting the life
of the Aetas after they left the plains and valleys and see the effect of the
curse to the Aetas and I would love to recommend it to my friends, other
people and to my family so that they will see how our ancestors live before.
