Highway Engineering

Marks: 40 5th Civil

Attempt the following questions:

1. Explain the objects of highway planning. State the basic principles of planning to meet
the objectives.
2. Give classification of highway according to Nagpur road plan.
3. What are the requirements of good highway alignment?
4. State the factors affecting the selection of a site for bridge.
5. Draw a neat sketch of cross section of road and its elements.
6. Explain PIEV theory.
7. The speeds of overtaking and overtaken vehicle are 60 kmph and 80kmph respectively. If
the acceleration of the overtaking vehicle is 2.5 kmph/second, calculate safe overtaking
sight distance for two lane traffic. Assume suitable data.
8. Find the superelevation for a vehicle of speed 75kmph on 250m radius curve. Take
friction factor 0.15.
