Dobutamine

Dobutamine is a positive inotropic drug that works by stimulating beta1 receptors in the heart to increase myocardial contractility and cardiac output. It is indicated for short-term treatment of cardiac decompensation due to depressed contractility from organic heart disease or cardiac surgery. Contraindications include hypovolemia, acute MI, pregnancy, and sensitivity to catecholamines. Side effects include increased heart rate, blood pressure, arrhythmias, and chest pain.
