Bulimia nervosa

Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by binge

eating and purging, or consuming a large amount of food in a short
amount of time followed by an attempt to rid oneself of the food
consumed (purging), typically by vomiting, taking a laxative,
diuretic, or stimulant, and/or excessive exercise, because of an
extensive concern for body weight. Many individuals with bulimia
nervosa also have an additional psychiatric disorder. Common
comorbidities are mood disorders, anxiety, impulse control, and
substance-misuse disorders. Patients with bulimia nervosa often
have impulsive behaviors involving overspending and sexual
behaviors as well as having family histories of alcohol and
substance abuse, mood and eating disorders.

Bulimia nervosa is considered to be less life-threatening than

anorexia; however, the occurrence of bulimia nervosa is higher.

Bulimia nervosa is nine times more likely to occur in women

than men. Up to 1% of women have bulimia nervosa.

Problems and Consequences

4
Here are some of the most important consequences and
problems of bulimia:

Depression
Anxiety
Loss of excessive and disproportionate weight
Weight gain excessive and disproportionate
Instability in body weight
Psychosis

Serious damage to the physical health from inappropriate

methods to compensate for binge eating food (vomiting). For
example:

Thorax damage
Buccal cavity
Gastrointestinal problems
Heart problems

It occurs as a result of bulimia rapid deterioration of overall

health will affect all aspects of life of the person.

While these people do not generally have problems in

education, work and social relations, when the disease is installed
and gravity finally takes these aspects of life are seriously
disturbed.

Factors causing bulimia

5
As the anorexia, this disease is caused by several factors so
much familiar, individuals or sociocultural. Later we will show you
to that we refer:

Individuals. It is a question of genetic, biological factors and of

personality. They concern more the feminine sex and has been
observed that between the relatives in the first degree of the
bulimics other patients exist bulimics, for what one thinks that
there is a genetic component.

Family. Often conflicting and disorganized families. In mothers of

people with bulimia it has seen a greater dissatisfaction with self-
image, and even with their children, being themselves fond diets
.Parents are usually dominant and drivers, very intrusive in the
lives of their children, demanding moods and making comparisons
between them and other children.

Sociocultural. The image models to imitate, slender figure and

as a value in itself act by similar mechanism anorexia.

The principal trigger factor is the beginning of a diet that

takes place after an increase of royal weight or due to a phobia to
the changes of corporal form which origin goes back often to the
puberty. Also they are in the habit of being trigger factors the
emotional conflicts and the vital stressful events, as in the
anorexia.

Bulimia - Personal opinion

6
In my opinion, the bulimia is a psychological disorder in
which the victims are not conscious of the evil that is done to his
bodies, of the evil that they do to the persons who surround them
not with the evil that is done as person, is a disease that is
happening little by little without realizing and when you make it
already has consumed you.

In the personal thing I am not to favor or me not opt for

following these extreme measures to meet "better", it is a disease
that really is ending you little by little and in which it is necessary
many will power to go out forward and defeat it, nevertheless I
think that though you conquer it of certain form it is something
that was marking you and it will follow your life.

Do not believe the persons who suffer this, find a way to

draw attention acquiring these extreme habits, they are just
people looking to follow a prototype of beauty acquire certain
types of methods or tricks for weight loss, taking them or them a
distorted picture his own body and coming to hate the same.

The biggest factor to this are the companies which show

entertainment prototype "perfect" people, with these tall, thin
almost bordering the skeletal, beautiful, famous and money and so
the young try to imitate and be like them.
