The Constitution of the Illinois State University Student Chapter of the
Illinois Association of Education for Young Children (ISU Chapter of IAEYC)

The Organization and its members agree to adhere to city/sate/national laws and university
policies.
Organization Name: ISU Chapter of Illinois AEYC
Purpose: To serve as the student affiliate organization for the National Association for the
Education of Young Children (NAEYC). By doing so, we promote high-quality early learning for
all young children, by connecting early childhood practice, policy and research. We advance a
diverse and dynamic early childhood profession and support all who care for, educate, and work
on behalf of young children. We focus on bringing issues to the attention of new teachers, help
promote quality education before working in the classroom, support policymakers and
researchers, and promote a diverse profession.
Qualification of Membership: To be a member you must be a student currently enrolled at
Illinois State University with a major or focus in education or child development.
Cost: It is $37 annually, payable at www.naeyc.org. This price is decided on at the
national level. It must be paid by credit card online at the above address. Members must show
proof of payment by e-mail or printed receipt. Members can join at any time during the school
year, but renewal is necessary when membership expires each year.
Hours: Members are required to attend 2 social and 2 volunteer events each semester.
There is enough planned each semester for this to be obtainable. Scheduling conflicts will not be
a valid excuse. Failure to complete these hours will result in loss of membership certificate at the
end of the school year.
Meetings: Members must attend all meetings. 24-hour notice is necessary if a meeting
will be missed. If a meeting is missed, it can be made up with an extra volunteer or social.
Failure to make it up with result in loss of membership certificate at the end of the school year.
Active Member: Members who fulfill the requirements for both semesters (total 4
volunteer, 4 social, 8 meetings, correct number of meeting make-ups if necessary, annual
payment of dues) will be considered active members and receive a membership certificate at the
end of the semester.
***PDS, Field Base, Student Teaching exempt from all requirements if off campus, but
MUST still pay dues and have proof of payment. If on campus (for one semester or both), please
attend all meetings. These members still remain exempt from socials and volunteers.***
***Students with class on date and times of meetings - You are exempt from coming to all
meetings, but must obtain social and volunteer hours to remain active.**
Officers:
Advisor: Dr. Miranda Lin
President and Vice President: Directs meetings, creates agenda, leads executive board
meetings, attends necessary RSO meetings, books rooms for meetings, books speakers for
meetings, sends e-mails to members, creates membership certificates at the end of the school
year
Secretary: Checks-in members, ensures there is proof of membership, takes notes at each
meeting
Treasurer: Handles money, helps secretary keep track of who has paid, brings current bank
statement to each meeting
Volunteer Chair: Plans volunteer events, attends those events, keeps track of members who
attend
Social Chair: Plans social events, attends those events, keeps track of members who attend
Public Relations Chair: Runs Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook
Recruitment Chair: Creates fliers to be posted on campus, tri-fold advertisement for Festival
ISU and Winterfest, organizes chalking of quad
Apparel Chair: Creates, advertises, and sells apparel at least once a school year
Being on the Executive Board:
Meetings: It takes all officers communication and collaboration skills to be successful as
an executive team. Executive meetings take place the hour before monthly member meetings.
Termination of Position: If at any point during the year, the dedication to this RSO is
questioned by any other executive officer, a position may be discontinued on a case by case
basis.
Elections: Positions are renewed at the end of each semester. If already on the board, one
may decide to stay in their position, or switch positions within the board. Officers already on the
board get their first choice. Any open positions left are open to the general members. All
members vote at the following meeting.
